I'm the same - just noticed that since I was moved to Eon Next in Dec no readings have been taken for Gas and gas is no longer showing on my smart meter handset
Smart meters are not always so smart. There are a number of reasons why they are unable to supply a reading and switching suppliers is one of them. I think the issue is that the reading is provided but routing it to the correct supplier doesn't happen. I personally dislike smart meters - I think they offer no real benefits at all. I've never had one fitted.
I log my meter readings monthly and post them with my suppliers via their web site. This way i keep well informed of what's going on and can check my bills/ statements for accuracy. I suggest you do the same if only to avoid an unwelcome shock when the consumption can be calculated at todays prices.
This sounds to me like it needs another dose of SMETS Commands to fix. I'll call in @DebF_EONNext as she's able to run the commands to fix read schedules and pull instant readings. I wish I could do that myself, but forum volunteers never have access to these things.

Sorry to summon ya @HannahD_EONNext but have you got a sec? Another read schedule that might need fixing again.
As for the £24 "cost". It's worth noting that replacing the meters has to take place every 10-15 years anyway and costs roughly the same amount regardless of meter type. There's also a lot of savings to be made with Smart Meters as a result of reduced tampering, more accurate billing, better meter accuracy and a bunch of other factors which will counterbalance the £24.
@theunknowntech
I accept that meters are replaced in time because of potential safety and calibration issues. Fine that's sensible. But at the moment people are being cajoled into having a smart meter. Smart meters must inevitably cost more than a non smart meter. I suspect that much of the cost is for fitting the devices, so any increase in the frequency of meter chages represents an additional cost.
Accurate billing ( more timely billing) doesn't save money to the consumer - the bills still have to be paid eventually. Accurate billing should help customers, but we used to have meter readers to do this and they who would also be able to visibly check for evidence of tampering. The in home displays really don't tell customers anything useful that they couldn't figure out for themselves if they were at all bothered. And they seem to cause no end of problems for customers as this forum demonstrates.
