I’ve always drawn the distinction between want and need, what is nice to have and essential.
we are all different and make our own choices, but essentially we can only spend our money once and when times are tough, we are forced to really consider our consumption of goods and services in a new light
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
Yes I’ve looked at the core usage and I’m embarrassed to say it’s around 0.25kW every hour, even overnight. For me that’s about £100 per month before I make a cup of tea so there’s more can be done.
We used to leave the computer on 24/7 but since seeing it uses over 2p per hour we now only have it on for maybe 4 hours max per day so save £10-15 per month that way.
We have two fridges and two freezers so will have to live with that element of core use but the embarrassing bit I alluded to is the televisions and associated paraphernalia.
Difficult to reach power sockets and lost recording schedules have stopped me unplugging but maybe it would be a good project to get the recording things on separate plugs and doing something to make it easier to switch off the power to the other bits when not in use.
There’s more energy, and therefore money, to be saved… that’s for sure.
One of the really irritating things for me ( i get free hot water in the summer) is that washing machines and dishwashers are all cold fill and thus require electricity to heat the water, whereas I have plenty to use but can't without a manual transfer using containers from tap to soap dispenser.

I'm applying the maxim, 'If it isn't dirty... wash at thirty'.
I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit.
These guys in a 1960’s sub went to sea for months with nothing but a small bag. As one guy got out of the small cubicle that was their bed another got in… it’s called hot bunking.
When they eventually opened the hatch, the smell of the fresh air was revolting to them. When they went to the loo, the sequence of valves and levers they had to operate to flush was so complicated that when they got it wrong it was known as ‘getting your own back’ 🤢
Try telling that to the kids of today… they won’t believe you 😮 😂
Seriously, if anyone finds themselves near Gosport, go to the submarine museum and have a tour inside the sub with an old submariner of the day… whilst they’re still with us.
What an eye opener 😳
