I have been going round the houses trying to get information about what IHD will work with my SMETS1 meter. We used to have one but somehow got lost and we want to get a new one so we can monitor our energy consumption. We have asked EON Next for help but that is sadly lacking. Can I purchase a compatible IHD online and if so how do I connect it up? Thanks for any help you can provide
I'm afraid not as you've got SMETS1. The only place to get a new SMETS1 compatible IHD from is your current energy supplier as there's nothing else you can buy on the open market. Please do NOT buy any off of places like eBay either. Most of the ones sold on eBay actually still belong to the original energy supplier and would technically be considered stolen property if sold without their permission. Given those IHDs would also still be paired to the original meters, you wouldn't be able to get them to work either.
I've also spoken to my friend Blastoise186 before and he's told me the same thing. Sorry about that.

thank you so much for your reply and sadly you have confirmed what I thought. I have asked EON Next to supply a IHD or upgrade our meter but they state they are not able to do this at present. Desperate to find a solution but not sure that is going to happen now.
Unfortunately, that's the problem with SMETS1. It's getting harder and harder to convince suppliers to give you a replacement S1 IHD these days, as the stocks of the original models continue to be depleted. One of the only IHDs I know of that's dual-compatible with S1 and S2 is the Chameleon IHD6-CAD-PPMID-S1, but from my understanding, E.On and E.On Next don't stock it and you can't buy one directly from Chameleon Technology either. Those would be the only two legitimate ways to get one and both are locked out for you.
There's no other solutions I can offer right now I'm afraid, sorry.
