@Karln they send readings automaticaly using their own weird signal not through a router.
Smart meters arent smart, and they dont save money for us,just more profit for the energy companies as they no longer have to pay people to read meters ! 🙄
I'm theunknowntech, a forum volunteer who definitely doesn't work in the energy industry. I can answer both those questions for you.
Question 1- is how do the send their readings to eon next?
For older SMETS1 meters, it's via the mobile phone network. Newer SMETS2 meters started rolling out in around late 2018 and use either Long Range Radio if you're in Scotland Northern England (The Northern Territory) or a Cellular connection that runs alongside the O2 network if you're everywhere else (The Southern Territory).
Question 2- is do they run and send readings through my internet router?
Nope. Smart Meters in the UK are designed to communicate using a private network that's off the public internet. While your In-Home Display might be able to connect to Wi-Fi, Smart Meters can't do this and probably won't anytime soon.
Just another guy passing by... The unknown tech way...
