I used to leave the gas central heating on overnight set at 20 degrees I now turn it off unless the weather report says it will be below zero overnight.
Will this save me a bit of money on my bill thanks in advance
I don't think I've ever written this before, but in this matter I think the advice from @theunknowntech is completely wrong!!
Once your home is warm you then have to replace the heat it loses through the building fabric with fresh heat. The rate at which the building loses heat will be directly related to the internal temperature and the external temperature. The higher the difference between the internal and external temperatures the more heat you will have to replace .Put simply the higher the indoor temperature the more it costs. This is why advice to lower the thermostat by 1 degree is often mentioned. Lowering it several degrees at night follows the same logic.
So leaving the heating off overnight is an entirely sensible and rational approach, especially when we're tucked up in bed, we don't need the rooms to be so warm as in the daytime.

This might help a bit, but at the same time... You'd be causing the boiler to work extremely hard when you do eventually fire it back up and that will wipe out your savings pretty badly. It's fine to do this in the summer of course, but not so much in the winter.

Totally agree. Exactly what we do. During winter and below zero outside the house has never gone lower than 15c inside.
If my bedroom gets as hot as 15°C I open a window. 13°C is the ideal bedroom temperature for me.

And to prove the point here's my readings during the cold snap last week - heating comes on it 6:30 and off 8:30, then on again between 16:30 & 22:30 (I may have kept it on a bit longer that morning)
