So…..
I was with npower who got shut down and was moved to eon next.
My in home display stopped working it just says waiting for current data and resets on a loop. Spoke to eon next on email who advised me they can’t do anything and can not replace it or have an engineer come look at it. I was told but a universal in home display and it will work. Off to eBay I go, buys the pipit 500 in home display universal, plugs it in follows instructions and exactly the same issue. It says online that Eon Next will need to make the smart meter enabled for pairing so I can pair the new in home display. Eon next don’t have a clue and they have told me to come on here for help. With the gas and electric prices doubling/tripling I want my in home display working so I can track everything correctly. I honestly feel like putting my head in the oven at this point. Not one person I have spoken to at eon next has helped in the slightest. HELP PLEASEEEEE
@PeterT_EONNext HALLELUJAH ITS UPDATED. My god that was hard work. Thanks for updating and sorting it. @theunknowntech thanks for your help and advise on the ivie bud. I think I’ll be coming to you first for any issues going forward 😂
Well, it looks like it's up to me, theunknowntech then to try and solve this. I'm also backed by a friend - a legendary Blastoise186 is also watching this thread and giving me guidance.
I'm afraid IHDs purchased on eBay like that will never work with your meters and will probably not be paired even if you request it for security reasons. I'd recommend sending that IHD back for a refund as it's now technically "stolen" property. The seller had no rights to sell it as it belongs to the energy supplier, not the customer. If the seller won't budge, use eBay's buyer protection polices to force a refund via the Resolution Centre.
The Secure Pipit 500 is also a SMETS1 IHD that would only ever work with Secure meters - it is not a universal IHD. Please could you show me photos of your original IHD. I'll see what I can figure out for you.
In actual fact, there's no such thing as a Universal IHD either. Anyone who claims to sell one is probably not telling the truth.
Just another guy passing by... The unknown tech way...

@theunknowntech oh god the plot thickens!! Well it was actually an employer of eon next who advised me to buy a new IHD through Amazon or eBay she said. I actually bought 2 a chameleon ihd6 and the pipit 500. Neither work of course. I will get you some images and post them for you. Thank you
This is what the display shows all the time and the Wi-Fi symbol in the top corner flashes on and off. After about 20 seconds it turns off and restarts and does it on a loop constantly
Hmm... Interesting... So I'm going to assume that your meter is a SMETS1 Secure Liberty 100 Series? That's the most likely one if you were with Npower. Then yeah, the other IHDs you bought definitely won't work. Refund time! :)
See if you can get the original IHD unpaired and re-paired with your meters. I've got a hunch...
@theunknowntech I think it is yes. Yes I have actually spoken to eon next as it was a member of staff who advised me to buy a new IHD and they are refunding me the costs so that’s great. I don’t know how to impair and repair there doesn’t seem to be any option from my side and when I questioned eon next about it they don’t have a clue it’s like talking to a brick wall. I have placed the IHD by the meter and left it there for a full 24 hours to try connect incase it was a signal issue with the walls in the house but no joy.
No worries. Sorry for the radio silence. I took a few days off over the weekend to help my friend Blastoise186 out with some stuff in the real world (for once!).
At this point, I think it's time I call in a joker card. I don't want this to go round in circles so I'm going to try a different tactic. @Beki_EONNext you're on! XD
@emmajayne91 Heya, infamous Beki here to solve some IHD issues 👋
So I have had a look at your account and it seems that your electric meter is a SMETS2, however your gas is a standard credit meter? Was there a problem with installation of your meters due to a kitchen cupboard or something?
