Smart Meter Issues
-
Hi - since moving to EON last May I have been using my old British Gas Smart meter to manually log meter readings. Unfortunately the British Gas meter stopped working after a power cut caused by the storms last November. I have contacted EON a couple of times here & I am still slightly confused regarding the next steps.. Due to this and difficulty manually reading the meter I cannot submit meter readings. Can someone please check and escalate for me?

Best AnswerHowdy! You've reached theunknowntech. I'm only a forum volunteer, but I'm a pretty overpowered one. :)
Hmm... Those storms were pretty bad from what I've heard. I wonder if the Comms Hub got fried somehow? Next to the meter itself, you should see a device that's got Trilliant written on it and it should have three lights on it - these are marked PWR, WAN and HAN. Please could you tell me which ones are lit up, what colour they are and whether they're solid or flashing. It might help me diagnose this issue.
Beki might also be able to run a few tests when she stops by - a few SMETS Commands to try and pull a meter reading is one of the quickest ways to test if comms are working at all. I would issue them myself, but I don't work for anyone in the energy sector and therefore I don't have any access to the necessary systems at all. You could see if customer service are willing to try that though. I also can't escalate things myself, but if Hannah or Beki stop by, they might be able to chase this up.
I also think you might qualify for the Priority Services Register, which would enable a few different services. One of these is to have someone come out and read the meter for you every month and submit the readings on your behalf. It's a free service and setting it up doesn't take long. There's some more details over here if you're interested.
Ultimately though, if the meter or comms hub got fried by those storms, then it's game over... Under such circumstances, it should be considered faulty and will need to be replaced anyway because who knows what other damage it also suffered!Just another guy passing by... The unknown tech way...

Hi @beeceegee ,
What you're showing me there is actually NOT a Smart Meter. It's just a bog standard Landis+Gyr E110 Type 5235A that was installed in 2012. Are you the same user as @Fordingbridge by any chance, or did you accidentally post to the wrong thread? -
@Fordingbridge - Your smart meter is a SMETS1 and is not currently enrolled to the DCC but it should be in the near future. This will reactivate the smart meters, allowing readings to be received by us.

@theunknowntech I can confirm they are 2 separate users 😊
