That error code suggests that your electric key is dead and needs to be replaced. You'll need to ask customer service for a TAG Code, wait one hour, pick up a new key from any PayPoint shop (provide the code to the shop assistant) and then insert the new key into the meter for at least two minutes once you get home. Please do NOT attempt to top-up again before you complete these steps, as the new key may otherwise be wiped and you'll lose the top-up.
Once that's all done, your new key will be activated and ready to go. The old one will be de-registered as well. Customer service can try to refund you for that top-up, as long as you have the receipt.
Hope this helps

No worries. If you ever get that same error code again, please alert customer service and they'll arrange for another key to be sent out. If you keep getting any error codes however, then it may be worth having the meter replaced. I'd usually recommend a limit of three error codes in the space of six months being more than sufficient for this.
The old key will have been automatically disabled as a result of the new key being set up, so you may want to dispose it when you get chance. I think there's a proper way to do so, but I'd have to ask Beki about that.
@Tracy
I will double check with what to do with the old key - I'm hoping they recycle them 🤞
It would be awesome if you could verify the answer, just in case someone comes searching for the same thing.
You can do this by clicking the 3 dots in the corner of the correct answer and click 'verify answer'.
Ahhh @Tracy I am so glad you asked this question because it has allowed me to action something this year towards our #ActionForClimate as well as #InChargeOfChange initiative.
It seems there is 'not really' anywhere to recycle these atm and 'not really' a facility to send them back...SO I have put this forward to the team I am heavily involved in.
I would love to keep you updated on this as I am passionate about getting this changed!
After more than 20 years of sending out these things, it's rather strange that no-one has yet considered the matter of how to dispose of them properly. It's a bad idea to simply throw them in the bin as they can hold personal data which really should be properly wiped out before disposal.
I hope someone figures out a way to do it across the entire industry soon! With more and more traditional prepayment meters slowly reaching end of service life... That's an awful lot of keys and cards to deal with! :(
@Beki that's great beki with so many keys it's a shame as unknowntech pointed out that it's not been already done , every little action to recycle something should be taken were possible it's a shame really but glad it's being looked into now they say everything happens for a reason so maybe now it will be addressed I'd love for you to keep me updated beki much appreciated 😁
