Hi. We have had a British Gas ‘Smart Meter’ for years which unfortunately was a SMETS1. I know they are meant to be upgrading them over-the-air to SMETS2 so they work with other suppliers.
We changed to Eonnext recently and have had to send manual meter readings and our smart reader didn’t say how much we was using (normal for a SMETS1).
Today it has started to show £ usage and the cost per unit seems to be correct.
How can I tell if I have been upgraded?
Can I stop sending manual reading? - I can’t find any smart meter readings on Eonnext account website.
In theory, you should be fine for all of that. The SMETS2 requirements that suppliers mention has been expanded to SMETS2 OR SMETS1 that's enrolled into DCC (all S1 meters will eventually be on DCC). Any other compatibility issues are generally dealt with by either suppliers, DCC or other involved parties so that you don't have to. If you're planning to go for things like Smart Export Guarantee, that should also be fine once your meters have migrated to DCC. Customer service might be able to check the status if you ask them, but it requires access to systems that I'd never be able to get close to as a forum volunteer.

I've heard of a lot of cases with the Landis+Gyr E470 and G370/G470 causing issues when British Gas installed them, due to the proprietary Centrica WAN that no-one else could touch. My friend Blastoise186 has researched these quite a lot, so I've checked some stuff with him and he's confirmed your meter should start working again eventually - but it will never be a true SMETS2 as that would require a hardware upgrade.
The easiest way to tell your meters have reconnected, is when it starts submitting Smart readings to your account. That's also the point when you can stop sending manual readings, so both items have the same answer.
@theunknowntech - Thanks for the reply. I will keep an eye on my account.
Do you know the exact things that it won't do? I was hoping to go with solar panels/battery/Octopus Go at some point but think you need SMETS 2 to be fully compatible.
