I booked an appointment to have gas and electricity smart meters fitted.
The technician turned up and started to prepare the new electric meter but then told me that E.On were unable to tell him the appropriate code needed to set up the meter.
So I was told I would be contacted by E.On.
Obviously I wasn't, so I phone the help desk who were unable to tell me why there was a problem and that I should try rebooking an appointment
Now when I try to book an appointment on the web site it just ignores my request and takes me back to the home page.
@KenNeedham Hey there, Beki here 👋
Did @theunknowntech provide you with solution?
It would be awesome if you could verify the answer, just in case someone comes searching for the same thing.
You can do this by clicking the 3 dots in the corner of the correct answer and click 'verify answer'.
Hmm... That's not right. This sounds like something that you'll need to phone up for to rebook the appointment. I'll see if I can attract Beki's attention in case that helps.
Just another guy passing by... The unknown tech way...

@KenNeedham - Heya, Beki here 👋 Thanks so much for taking the time to get in touch o the Community. I've had a little look at your account and I think this happened because you have an ECO7 set up. We can attempt to book the appointment in again for you but I would like to check if you have storage heaters in the property?
Nope, Storage Heaters aren't usually a blocker. However, it does make things more complicated as not all Smart Meters can directly replace an Economy 7 setup - as a Five-Terminal SMETS2 Smart Meter is needed for those, rather than a Four-Terminal model. Given that you don't have any Storage Heaters though, if you're not using E7 anymore for anything else, you wouldn't need a Five-Terminal meter - but it's a bit more complicated to revert back to a simpler setup.
My whole reason for switching to a smart meter is that I power a lot of stuff on the cheap rate, just not heaters.
I have an electric car for instance and later I want to install battery storage and solar panels.
Gotcha, then in that case I think I know what happened. It sounds like the engineer who turned up was only equipped with - and only capable of installing - Four-Terminal Smart Meters, but Five-Terminal Smart Meters require not only the right hardware, but also additional training to make sure it's done correctly. If the wrong engineer turns up, they have to abandon the job. But engineers trained in both types can of course do both types. It's a similar story with Three-Phase Meters as well actually. Only Three-Phase trained engineers can handle those.
In that case, you should be able to try to rebook the appointment when you get chance - but its best to do so over the phone rather than self-service so that you can request the right type of meter.
I don't think I need a 5 terminal meter.
I want the entire house supply to switch between normal and low rate
I don't need a separate circuit which is only switched on during low rate periods (the ECAUL process?)
For example, I need to be able to charge the car during the day although I will normally only charge during the low night rate
Ah ok. In that case, I think the solution is a bit different.
You can have a regular Four-Terminal SMETS2 Smart Meter set up in Economy 7 mode for this purpose, but this would require some additional work due to the current meter setup that I suspect you've got. Could you post some photos of your existing meters please?
