@theunknowntech Hi,
Sounds complicated but until someone actually finds and reads the engineer's report nothing will happen.
Beki hasn't responded yet as I suppose she has done all she can for now. Incredibly frustrating though. I just wish I'd known a bit more about the installation at the time.
Hold on a second... If the engineer only attempted to use an SKU1 Cellular Comms Hub and made no attempt to use an SKU2 Cellular + Mesh with any kind of external aerial, then I'm afraid the install was not done properly. They're supposed to attempt it in this order: SKU1 Cellular > SKU2 Cellular + Mesh in Mesh mode (if possible) > SKU2 Cellular + Mesh + T1 Aerial > SKU2 Cellular + Mesh + T2 Aerial > Abandon as No WAN and notify DCC (even bigger T3 aerials are in development). If any attempt is made to use a T1 or T2 aerial, you'd know about it.
It should all be in the engineers report. I'm not sure if you can get a copy, but it should be on record.
Hi,
I replied earlier but it hasn't obviously been moderated yet. A copy of the engineer's report woiuld be useful to have but I'm sure they wouldn't release it.
No worries. I'll keep an eye on this thread as Beki might be back tomorrow.
I can never remember if the engineers report can be given to you as a customer, but at very, very least it's meant to be filed away somewhere that the supplier can get to it later if needed.
Just another guy passing by... The unknown tech way...

@theunknowntech Hi,
You may have seen it but just to say I edited my post re the photo. I attached the photo taken at 09.24 on the installation date. Another thing I noticed was that the attached info ticket for the electricity meter has a bar code at the bottom. This ticket now has had the bar code crossed out.
Now watch and be amazed as I pull off a magic trick or two...
That barcode appears to relate to the GUID for a device manufactured by Chameleon Technology, most likely either a Chameleon IHD3 or Chameleon IHD6. I bet you're wondering how I know that? Well, lets just say I have evil magic powers of my own. Muhahahahahaha!
My guess is that was meant to be the IHD you were supposed to have been given, but never actually received. If I really wanted to, I could probably dig deeper to try and identify the exact model that GUID relates to, but it's too much effort to figure that out and beyond my skills at this time. It's very unusual for that information to be left next to the electric meter though!
@theunknowntech Hi,
That would make sense. It doesn't solve the mystery of the missing comms hub though. Any way you look at it, this is a mess. I am beginning to seriously think they want me to change my supplier.
@Queenie That is not true at all but I can understand why you feel like this. I have emailed smart metering but there is a back log from over Christmas. I have started the process and I thank you for your patience whilst we wait for a response. 🙏
I'm in exactly in the same situation - was told I was getting a smart meter installed, but I keep having to send meter readings and I have only just learned I should have been given an IHD. I don't know what a comms hub is but I don't have that either!
Confusingly, I keep getting emails and texts from Eon-next to have a smart meter installed - I have tried for the past couple of days to make an appointment online but the system does not allow it (it has 4 steps and goes back to step 1 after 3?!)
So I don't know what I have installed, but there is nothing "smart" about this situation!
