I seem to be stuck, I set up an appointment to replace my electric and gas meters for smart meters. When the appointment came up I was told upon inspection my electric meter was fine to replace but not the gas meter? Apparently the gas meter is a hefty one and they would need to replace that one with a more standard one before coming back to replace that one with a smart meter.
I was told they would get back to me, but this was March/April time and it's been quiet since then.
I tried to setup another smart meter install but after I explained what happened last time I was told not to bother and that E.on Next wouldn't replace the gas meter at all.
So now I'm confused as to what to do? Who is supposed to replace the seemingly specialised meter to something E.on can happily replace?
Let me guess... Someone tried to replace an Ultrasonic gas meter with a Diaphragm gas meter, or a Diaphragm with an Ultrasonic? They're all pretty much standard sizes as long as you replace with the same type i.e. Diaphragm -> Diaphragm OR Ultrasonic -> Ultrasonic. This should not have blocked the Meter Exchange.
In actual fact, it's a waste of time to MEX out the current meter for another one, only to come back a second time and replace that meter with another one... Why not just replace the first meter with the one that's actually going to be used long term anyway? Other suppliers might be willing to upgrade the gas meter for you, but you'd have to switch away from E.On Next if you want them to do so. Only the current supplier has the ability to do this.
Just my thoughts anyway. Would you mind showing me some photos of the existing gas meter? I bet you I can solve this puzzle in maybe five seconds or less.
Just another guy passing by... The unknown tech way...

@alibowl It seems from what you have stated that they have been disingenuous in the first instance with you. If I were you I would hold them to their word if you can prove that they put it in writing. If that is the case and they still don't oblige you, then follow the official complaints procedure.
