I have a SMETS1 meter installed by EDF for a pilot scheme back before smart meters became commonplace and left in place when the pilot ended. No IHD.
I checked the meter on the Citizens Advice page and they say it can't be used as a smart meter. Thing is, e-on are putting readings from it on my bills, which makes me think the CA page is perhaps unreliable.
I want to swap to an EV tariff, but am struggling to find out whether this meter would support it. Anybody know the answer?
If the meter doesn't support it, will e-on replace it if I swap to their Drive tariff? Would that be FOC? How long would I have to wait before i could use the new tariff? Would the new tariff 12 months start from when the new meter was up and running?
if your bills are accurate then the smart meter is functioning. SMETS1 meters will function properly if they were successfully enrolled onto the DCC system (as all SMETS2 are) - many were enrolled but equally many were not.
the drive tariffs use half hour consumption data (obviously derived from cumulative readings but not the same thing) and if you download the bright app you can verify if these are being transmitted as well. If so then a drive tariff may well be possible.

Thank you for the great question and thank you @meldrewreborn for the best answer.
I would imagine as mentioned as long as the meter is communicating, there should not be an issue, have you had any interaction with customer service at all?
Thanks

@Jeremy5 That's great to read. We do need our customer service teams also as they are in the best place to help our customers.
Customer service would be able to check your meter details for you, just to make sure the meter is live and active. To be honest though, you would see this on your bills as we would be getting reads.
Make sure you stick around, there is always something going on within the forum.
Let me know if you do reach out to them and what their reply is 😎
contact with customer services means you are reliant on the expertise of just one person, whose knowledge depends upon their training.
the forum has very wide ranging knowledge from a variety of people from many different disciplines, with back up from nexties. We can diagnose issues but cannot of course implement resolution, although customer services can be pointed to the right action.
