Ever thought about if you can charge your EV in the rain?

Well the answer is YES! you can ....
Did you know that EV's and charges are built to handle H2o which allows them to work safely during wet weather conditions. 🌧

    Are all EV chargers waterproof?

Yes, all electric vehicle chargers are waterproof. The charging ports on electric cars are designed to be weatherproof and water resistant. So, if you're caught in a rainstorm and need to charge your car, you can rest assured that the chargers are specifically designed for use in wet weather.

These chargers are made with waterproof materials and are sealed against moisture, so you can be sure your car will charge up safely even in the heaviest rainstorm. This protects you, your car, and the charger itself from any potential damage.

@Lee_EONNext I know you have an EV what are your thoughts when it comes to charging your EV in rainy weather? 🌧

I myself don't own a EV however I would love to know how everyone feels when they need to charge their EV in rainy conditions? Is it something you worry about or even consider charging on another day?

This thread is helpful @Indyk_EONNext as someone who has no clue about EV's I asked some questions a while back in this thread Driving an electric vehicle in heavy rain about the impact of rain on an EV so this kind of rounds up my questions! 🤩

One clue might be that the vast majority of public charging points don't have a roof, yet most petrol filling stations do...

Obviously you aren't standing around holding the nozzle like you are at the pumps, but it would nice to stay dry whilst plugging in and fighting with a touchscreen in the rain...

@DebF_EONNext Havent really noticed much difference in battery during rain, but during the winter! the battery life shortens so much! I think it's because the battery needs to be kept at a certain temp so it is always draining the main battery, you can turn the feature off but then you risk your battery.
@rwh202 and then it doesnt work first or second time and you have to keep re-booting the charger 🤣
@Indyk_EONNext I get the better half to charge it so I dont have too, to be honest its only public charging its an issue but then its only a bit of rain

You're never going to harm the battery, but the pre-heating enables it to deliver full power and charging speeds during cold weather.

Cabin heating is the big range killer - in a fossil fuel car, the heating comes from the waste energy from the inefficient engine - in an electric, it's straight from your battery. That's why some are now coming with heat pumps to reduce the drain.

Also, this mostly affects short journeys - once everything is up to temperature, the drain drops off. Doing a 10 minute drive to work, parking all day, driving 10 minutes back, repeat etc. is the worst case for this. If this is your usage, then just wrap up in a coat and use the heated seats / steering wheel!
