Energy price guarantee - my prices have increased!!!

    Hi

I'm wondering if somebody could shed some light on the energy price guarantee changes.

I've had an email to say my tariff has been reduced in line with EGP. (it won't allow me to post pictures, says I don't have permission).

But the text is as below:
Good news - from 1 October we've reduced your fixed tariff prices to the same level as the government's Energy Price Guarantee (EPG) which limits the amount that can be charged per unit of electricity and gas for variable tariffs.

We wanted to make sure that customers on a fixed tariff (like you) get the same benefit as customers on a variable tariff. We'll review prices regularly in line with the EPG.

You can see your new energy prices in your online account, if you have one. If you don't, set up your account now.

So I've gone online to check my tariff and compare to what I had.

Previous tariff details, as per my energy statement:

    Elec:
Tariff name: Next Online v14, fixed
    Unit rate: 37.707p/kWh
    Standing charge: 36.112p/day

    Gas:
Tariff name: Next Online v14, fixed
    Unit rate: 9.377p/kWh
    Standing charge: 25.923p/day

New tariff details as per my online account:

    Elec:
Tariff name: Next Online v14, fixed
    Unit rate: 35.06p/kWh
    Standing charge: 37.92p/day

    Gas:
Tariff name: Next Online v14, fixed
    Unit rate: 9.85p/kWh
    Standing charge: 27.22p/day

Now please tell me how this is a reduction when they have actually increased 3 of the 4 charges. My unit rate for gas has gone up, and my standing charge for gas and for electricity has gone up!!!

Where do I stand, what do I do?

    Thank you in advance, Bryony

So multiply each of the figures in your statement by 1.05 to get the online figures. But your electricity rates have been reduced slightly because they are above the EPG cap.

Figures look about right although you can let us know your region and someone can confirm for sure.

@Mailman Perfect - thank you! That makes much more sense. Then I have a saving on my new electricity unit rate, but everything else stays the same.
