SCAM Warning - New EON Next Email Data breach

I have recently left EON Next (28th March), having moved into a new property. I provided the details of my final readings to EON via hi@eonnext.com. Today, I was contacted on the phone by a person who said they were from EON Next. They were keen for me to rejoin at my new property.

Initially, there was no indication this was a scam, they quoted back the emails to EON Next mentioning the final readings, in addition to the name of the landlord I was handing the account over to.

They wanted confirmation of my new address and date of birth, which I gave. Luckily, I didn't go any further before checking the number and doing a Google search:

    0115 762 9950

There wasn't much information but one website signalled it as a scam so I hung up immediately.

I phoned EON Next to confirm whether this was/wasn't them. They confirmed it wasn't and recommended blocking the number. I asked for them to escalate this issue as there appears to have been a very recent data breach where emails to and from EON Next have been hacked. I wanted to warn people to make sure others are not tricked in the same way.

Hey @dtull 0115 762 9950 is one of our outsource team numbers and this was a genuine sales call 😊 I'm sorry if our energy specialists advised otherwise, it's not one of our well known numbers as it's only outbound so they may not have known. I will get this passed on as feedback as everyone should be aware.

Thanks for hopping on to the community and sharing with us though, it's really important to highlight anything that looks suspicious as there's so much of it out there now. You certainly did the right thing. If you do get a call and you think it could be a scam just hang up and investigate!

Hey @dtull this looks like one of our numbers for our outsource teams so it's very possible this was a genuine call. I have asked for some confirmation for you though just to confirm that it is genuine and put your mind at ease 😀

Hi, thanks for the clarification. I phoned this number - 0808 501 5200 - to get clarification. Obviously, they were not as well informed as you are. I do believe it is important to ensure these numbers are listed somewhere in future
