Hello
Previously on NPower we had access to some more detailed data and graphs about our energy usage.
With the Smart meters will we be possible to have daily or even hourly data available so we can see exactly when we are using energy. The smart meter home unit box is handy but not very easy to dig into the data and doesnt appear to have a way to access the raw data?
Would love to have access to the detailed data and use of zoomable smart graphing interface along with some analysis so it can tell me things like what my base load is.
Thanks

Hi there @Tfowle, thanks for the post. You're not the first person who's missing the consumption data that was visible with npower. It's something that we're working on at the moment for our online accounts. We're also building an app so that it's even easier for you to keep an eye on things. I've checked in with our tech team, and we're looking at adding the consumption info early in the new year. I'll make sure I keep everyone posted on here. Hat

Do you know what the resolution of that data will be? Can it be half hourly?
-

So it won't be half-hourly to start with, but that is a feature that we'll introduce a little later on.

Any updates on this? An API to get my own readings would be ideal.
I’d hate to have to rely on submitting Subject Access Requests to your Data Protection Officer. -

Any news on this?

Hi @BarCar, I gave a little update a few weeks ago here. I know it feels like it's taking a long time, we do want to get it right though and I promise it is being worked on. Hat

This is rubbish quite frankly. The npower site was much better. Feels like a huge downgrade.

@Richtea78 Hi there, and lovely to see you on the community, although I'm sorry to read that you're not feeling too happy since moving to E.ON Next. I was just reading your other post.
You're right about the tracker - in fact you've probably read the replies above. The latest date I have for launch on that is June.
I get why you might feel like it's been a bit of a downgrade. We're setting E.ON Next up from scratch, which might sound a little strange when you see E.ON in the name. But we're working with brand new tech and ways of working and building up the features all the time. So we don't have everything all singing all dancing yet, but the good thing about that is, that we can work with you to make sure that what we design, is what you want and need. A good example of that is the app. We tried one - some of the members tested it, and it just wasn't good enough, so it was back to the drawing board, and we're almost there with a new one. In fact I was in a session the other day around how we could link this community to it! In terms of emails - is it in general to E.ON Next? If so that's hi@eonnext.com, or if it's to email me - you can always drop me a DM.
Hope that helps? -

You’re not setting up from scratch though, you’ve bought an existing provider and forced all the customers to move. If you were a new provider I wouldn’t touch you precisely because these are the kind of stupid issues you get with new providers. If you were genuinely new you’d have to price accordingly to attract people but you’re not doing that either.
so far all I’ve seen is a lack of products, a lack of information. I literally cannot wait to leave as soon as my contract is up.
Oh and you’re using Kraken from Octopus so I’m not even sure the new excuse works, you just don’t want to pay for the decent services -

@Richtea78 Hi again :)
You're absolutely right we've bought an existing supplier, but because we've got a new business model, new ways of working and managing energy accounts, and different systems to them, we have essentially started from scratch in building a new supplier.
I know npower got lots of good feedback about their website - ours has a lot to live up to when we get it there! Sadly, because we're using those different systems and different billing frequencies, etc, their website and our systems sadly weren't compatible, so we're having to start from scratch to build the online account management tools they were praised for!

Maybe you should have built them before forcibly switching everyone over to a half working site. I’m now going to leave eon as soon as my contract is up and will never come back. Hopefully enough other customers will do the same that you realise how badly you have messed up

HI All, yes lack of data from the smart meter in terms of history, useage and graphs is well overdue. This was promised by EON to start in June but of course they never said which YEAR!
They could easily buy in software for the app from other companies, we all know who they are and wilst these apps are not perfect and are slow sometimes they do work most of the time -
14-01-22kloudy
Just came across this while searching for E.ON Next APIs.
An API to expose energy usage would be perfect - other providers already do this e.g.
https://developer.octopus.energy/docs/api/
Having just a smart meter or energy consumption info in your app or on your website doesn't allow us to integrate that data with existing things e.g. smart home tech, however an API would open a world of possibilities! -
17-01-22TFowle
That would be even better and as Kraken (Eon Next platform) is a subsidiary of Octopus may even be something Eon Next already have access to.
-

There's no guarantee that the API will be available though. Apparently, the instance of the software running on this side is not the same as the other one so the API might not even be enabled.

@Ziggy Hey there, Beki here 👋 I've popped a reply to your thread. It's not just a name change, it's a separate business, a reinvention and a celebration of everything & everyone powered by sustainable energy.
Sending positive energy to you,

Hello.
Is there any revised time of release for this data please since the last estimate was June. I'm wanting to buy a solar panel & battery setup, but for that I need an accurate daily energy consumption list so that I can determine the size of the solar panel array and battery storage capacity. Without this data I'm stuck and unable to proceed. It would be foolish to best-guess a purchase of this magnitude.
As others have stated; they've had this data from previous suppliers (my previous supplier was EDF - who had the same data available). So even if the data couldn't be put into an app is it possible I can obtain the raw data in an Excel/CSV/spreadsheet format for me to work on it?
Thank you. -
15-02-22Beki
@snowwraith I have asked the question for you tot he tech team and they said we don't have time frame for it, but they are working on it as we speak 😊

Any more news? can i ask what the hold up is? as since January i have been able to connect my Electric smart meter to Samsung Smartthings to view the Daily & Hourly usage, but not the 30 minute usage? from what i am aware the smartmeter data is centrally stored thats where energy companys access the data from?
-
12-08-22Iain0925
It has been over a year since the first post on this thread, duting that time electricity prices have increased dramatically, the best fixed deal available now is a whopping FIVE TIMES the price back then.
When will the half hourly data be available? We need need a fixed date rather than a vague "....workin' on it..."
Cynics would say you don't want people to have access to thier usage data, as they may use it to reduce thier usage and damage your profits.
The same cynics would point to the SM/IHD which you provide, knowing full well the signal is so weak it cannot penetrate a masonry wall. -
27-08-22Iain0925
The Silence Deafens. I have found the only way to get a response (e.g. to get them to start taking reading from the meter) from E.ON is to raise a complaint, so that's what I'll do.

Hi there, I'm jumping into the wagon. I would be extremely ken of viewing my usage online or least to have access to API that I can fetch to Grafana. I'm developer myself and waiting for a feature to be delivered over 2 years is definitely excessive... New name, technology but still inefficient waterfall behind the scene.

Any update on this? Will it be ready before the 1st October price hike to 52p / kWH?

I don't think regular customer support will be able to assist you with such queries. I do not have a smart meter so I cannot test it out correctly but their API indicates we are able to tap into it.
Step 1: Login to EON next website and press F12 when using chrome and then navigate to Network tab. Find your authorization token
Step 2: Find your MPAN and Meter serial number (both can be found in the meter reading and billing sections)
Step 3: get postman or any similar tool and do the following
GET method
URL https://api.eonnext-kraken.energy/v1/electricity-meter-points/{mpan}/meters/{serialnumber}/consumption/
Header: authorization JWT xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Replace {mpan} and {serialnumber} with actual values
The expected result should be
{
"count": 48,
"next": null,
"previous": null,
"results": [
{
"consumption": 0.063,
"interval_start": "2018-05-19T00:30:00+0100",
"interval_end": "2018-05-19T01:00:00+0100"
},
{
"consumption": 0.071,
"interval_start": "2018-05-19T00:00:00+0100",
"interval_end": "2018-05-19T00:30:00+0100"
},
{
"consumption": 0.073,
"interval_start": "2018-05-18T23:30:00+0100",
"interval_end": "2018-05-18T00:00:00+0100"
}
]
}
Please let me know if it works.

I can't say I fully understand the issue here. I can see my half-hourly usage for both gas and electric. I have set my smart meter to send half-hourly readings and downloaded the Hildebrand Bright App where I can see my consumption for every half hour interval going back a year.
-
06-10-22GrumpySi
Thanks @Matobato, that works great.
-
06-10-22Matobato
@JoeSoap There are many different problems outlined in this thread. My contribution was mainly to people who want to read their data directly via API. That means no waiting for EON to do any functionality and of course, not everyone wants to share their data with an app they found on the app store. By using the method I outlined there will only be 3 parties that know your consumption. You, EON, and DCC.
@GrumpySi you are welcome. -
06-10-22JoeSoap
@Matobato
Understood, and I wasn't being critical. I'm not tech-minded but just wanted to suggest a way to see half-hourly consumption. -
07-10-22stuart576
@Matobato Thanks for providing that API example, I managed to get it working in so far that I am getting a 200 response in Postman. But I don't get any data returned. All I get back is:
{
"count": 0,
"next": null,
"previous": null,
"results": []
}
I checked that my meters were smart on https://smartmetercheck.citizensadvice.org.uk/.
It says that I have a SMETS1. If I am not getting any data back does this mean I'm not connected to the DCC backend?
Sorry for bombarding you with questions, no worries if you can't answer. -

Thanks @Matobato, registered just to message you! - It worked the first time I tried it, 10 minutes later, I get:
Quote:
"detail": "Cannot authenticate with provided Kraken token."
I guess the token doesn't last long if it's not used regularly, or it changes too frequently. I refreshed the page and got another, compared to the first and the same 108 characters were identical, but the remaining 292 were different.
I'll try some more, but if it works, I'll bring it into Home Assistant so I can chart our usage.

From the Smart Meter Check, I get:
Quote:
Your electricity meter's working in smart mode
Supplier: E.ON Next Energy Limited
This means your meter should automatically send readings to your supplier, so you don't need to send them yourself.
It's working in smart mode because you have a first generation (SMETS1) meter that’s on the smart meter data network. The network connects your smart meter to energy suppliers.
I checked my meter readings on the EonNext site and I have 1 reading that says it is 'Smart' (it's only just been activated).
Putting the info into Postman, I get:
Postmaster-EonNext-KrakenAPI.png/a>
Hope that helps?

@TFowle
Hello, I saw this old thread going back to 2020. I have the same question, it's even more difficult now to track average usage. Bills are issued at any date a meter reading is given, i.e random bill frequency. Where can I see a graph of my usage? Thank you -
16-03-23retrotecchie
@eng500
The way most of us non smart meter owners do it is to just take daily readings and then use a spreadsheet to do the analytics. Several smart meter owners also do this as you can easily produce any output you need, not just what the energy companies provide.
-
16-03-23meldrewreborn
@eng500
you can take readings at any frequency you like. Take one reading from the previous and divide that figure by the number of elapsed days. That gives you the average daily consumption for that period. Repeat for as many times as you wish. Over time a trend will become apparent. -
27-02-24Mon269
I know this is an old thread but I was looking for an API to query my consumption data. Can I ask where I can find the authorisation token mentioned by @Matobato? I've looked at the network tab under the dev tools but can't find it.
Thanks
