@Hatwildeman Hi, now tell me this - why should I be charged more for not paying by direct debit? I have zero balance on my account and use the app to pay the exact bill but by not paying by direct debit I get penalised. There is no requirement for any staff interaction to process an automated payment so why different charges?

Hi there, you've already posted these queries and I have answered them here
Since you have posted here as well, why not introduce yourself while you've chosen to post above? -

Hi My name is Nick. I migrated to EonNext from EonEnergy last year, but been with Eon for over 11 years. I joined today as I didn’t realise there was a forum until I posted a question on messenger and it directed me to the forums.
So here I am. Like to get involved and help were I can. -

Hey @Worried,
I'm Deb one of the Community Co-ordinators it's lovely to meet you!
That really is a good question. The reason that we give a discount for direct debit customers is because it is all automated, this means there is less cost involved for us and we can then pass this saving on to the customer. There are some admin costs involved in manual transactions such as card payments etc.
We would encourage customers to pay by direct debt as it is usually the most convenient method and offers a small saving for our customers. This doesn't mean that you have to pay a fixed amount each month some of our tariffs allow for a variable direct debit meaning you can pay for what you use each month and still benefit from the direct debit discount. This isn't mandatory though if customers want to pay manually on receipt of bill then of course that option is still there.
I hope this helps 😊 -

Hi there, I've been an EON customer for many years now & have always been very happy with the service I've received, a while ago I got switched from EON to EON Next, what's the difference between the two? JohnF

Hi @JohnF, welcome to the community! 🎉
EON and EON Next are two separate companies, but Eon Next is part of the EON companies group. -

Hi, just joined , just done a standard meter reading and the estimated annual cost on the statement is - £2514.35 a year for gas, yet last year use was £795 plus the £27 bill yesterday, so not really sure where the figure comes from? if this is the wrong thread then please move, thanks

@Josie58
Welcome. I would concentrate more on last years usage in kWh and the same for the next year’s estimate.
The monetary estimates will be higher as the unit costs of energy have risen and will rise again in October. -

Hi, I'm Soap... Joe Soap. Much to my wife's chagrin I'm no James Bond. I know it's a bit late to introduce myself but better late than never as they say.
I recently 'got my bus pass' having worked for a little over 50 years... man and boy 😉. Since retirement I still think I'm on holiday but I'm getting through the list of jobs... gradually. Actually, as I cross one off the top another appears on the bottom from somewhere.
I'm now in my second year as an Eon Next customer and all has been good so far. The only issues have been around smart meters and IHD updates but that's where this forum, or community, has come to the rescue in good time.
I have some time on my hands now, in spite of the list of jobs and many walks, coffees, drinks, meals out... oh, and relaxing, so I thought I'd hang around here for a bit to see if I could help out in some small way. I have no particular expertise in gas and electric consumption - except consuming and paying for it - but if can just 'sweep up and make the tea' around here then it gives the other volunteers a bit of respite and more time to help with more specialised stuff.
I may get things wrong but forum stalwarts will surely put me right. Every day's a school day.
Anyway... nice to be here and see you around. 😀 -

@JoeSoap Love your little intro! You have made our day! It's great to have you here! Thank you so much for sharing this! you're right always better late than never! 😊
It can be a learning curve for all us and we don't always get it right but together we'll get there! - see you around the Community🌞 -

so using last years kWH then the figure of 10786.6 and the 10.30p are the figures I use for the estimate?
this is from 10th Sep 2021 to 14th Sept 2022 -
15-09-22Andy65
Hi @Josie58
Yes, 10.3p per kWh seems to be the anticipated price for the variable tariff. You'll also need to add on the Standing Charge, which is 23p per day in round numbers, so about £82 per year.
I would think that the estimate that you've had was based upon the expected rise to take place on 1st October, but using your numbers at the anticipated 10.3p per kWh, you would be looking at an estimated cost of about £1200 per year.
I tend to be careful with forecasting gas usage, I average it over a few years (easy for me as I keep a spreadsheet) because the severity of winter can make a huge difference if you have gas central heating. -
15-09-22JoeSoap
@Josie58
You could contact customer service and challenge the estimated cost of your gas using your last year's consumption multiplied by the new unit cost from Oct plus the standing charge. As @Andy65 has calculated, this would be about half the estimated cost you have been given. As he also alludes-to though, we may have a harsh winter so some bit of extra estimate could be a wise move.
It's possible of course that the estimate you have been given will change soon anyway to reflect the change to the Oct price cap and scrapping of the Jan and Apr predicted rises, so you may want to sit tight for a bit. Things are going to take a wee while to sort out. -

Thank you for being part of that difference. 😊 -

The only reason I'm here is because I'm panicking about the predicted usage and bills for the year ahead and trying to find out where to find summaries of previous years to compare which I can't seem to find within my bills.

@Robz
It will tell you on your bills what usage you have been billed for. You may have to watch out for estimated readings and do your own calculations.
If you look down the right hand side of your bills you will see your annual estimated usage next to each of your gas and electric billings. -

@HELEN104
Your vouchers should be with you within eleven working days of the start of the month according to government guidelines. You should receive them by next Monday although Eon Next are trying to get them issued before that. -

10-10-22HELEN104
@HELEN104 can you also tell me can i split the voucher between elec and gas
-
10-10-22JoeSoap
@HELEN104
I found this on another thread posted by a member of Eon Next Community staff…
‘’If you receive a voucher you can choose to split the money across both fuels…’’
I think this only works if you have two traditional prepayment meters and not any smart prepayment meters. -

Hi all
I'm Retrotecchie and I do exactly what it says on the tin. I'm a tecchie and a fan of all things retro. Like analogue meters, old fashioned customer service, and proper sweeties weighed out from a huge jar into a paper bag, for example.
Semi retired but still working hard to keep obsolete things working, customers happy and a roof over my head.
Owner of two Cocker Spaniels, three chickens and a stone-built 19th century hovel in Wales.
Not on mains gas, barely on mains electricity (seriously) and no mobile networks in range. A joyous existence.
Plenty of rats, just no racing happening. -

Good morning @retrotecchie Anasa here 👋 it's lovely to have you here and to get to know you a little better! I remember those days with sweeties in the jar! the ones on the shelf were always the luxury ones and a lovely treat so you always felt very lucky if you had enough money for the jar sweeties! The penny sweets where always very popular and you felt like the luckiest person in the world to get 100 sweets for a £1!
It's sounds lovely where you are! @Beki_EONNext can relate to having chickens! they are a big part of the team! and all of us on Community team have either a couple of cats or a dog or two!
Can't wait to see you around! Have a fab day! 😊 -

When I grew up in a small Hampshire village, we had a proper sweet shop with the shelves behind the counter loaded with jars. The lady who ran the shop was a friend of the family so when my brother and I went to spend our pocket money, I'm sure she'd give the jar an extra shake over and above the weighed out 'quarter'. Happy days indeed.
Now the 'pennies' have to go on a few kilos of chicken feed, ten kilos of dog food or a few drums of heating oil!
The priorities have rather changed since I was a kid lol. -

Recently I’ve found that black jacks could be purchased from Poundland but then they disappeared again. A cricketing friend took pity on me and sourced a 1kg box. 🥲

@meldrewreborn
They stain your tongue. The Fruit Salads were nicer... 4 for a penny. -

@JoeSoap
yes they had those too for a while! -

There's one thing you'll never get again... a Smoker's Outfit. We used to get one in our stocking at Christmas. Chocolate cigar, cigarettes, matches, lighter, pipe and ashtray to teach us how to smoke properly later when we reached our teens 😂.
It never worked on me though 😇 -
13-10-22retrotecchie
Black Jacks and Fruit Salad...two for a penny, back in the day. Loads of retro sweets available online...but the prices haven't half gone up...rather like the gas and leccy!

Four for 1d in my day. A farthing each 😁 -

When my mum went to the shops we used to ask for thruppence worth of rubbish. She knew what we meant and we’d get a bag of chocolate mice, black jacks, flying saucers with sherbet in them.
It’s amazing I’ve still got my teeth 😂 -

@JoeSoap
I remember those sweets too. My aunt and uncle owned an ice cream and sweet shop, so I used to get occasional free ice cream cornets. They kept their ice cream recipe secret and it disappeared when they retired. Such a pity because it was really delicious. -
13-10-22retrotecchie
A couple of old friends of mine have opened an ice cream/gelato shop on The Wirral.
Too far for an afternoon out for me, unfortunately.
My nearest shop of any description is an eight mile round trip. That's a quid in diesel and twenty minutes on top of the price of a bag of Haribos! -
13-10-22Han_EONNext
At my ripe old age of 24… I don’t have much to contribute here 🤣! But it does sound like better days. Although near me there’s an old fashioned sweet shop that still have all the retro sweeties in a jar (@meldrewreborn black jacks and everything!!!).
