Winter Support Scheme

    Hi All,

Has anyone here been contacted by Eon about the energy support scheme?

I’ve contacted Eon several times about this since it was launched at the beginning of October. I was advised to either wait for contact as there wasn’t anything showing in my account to state that I was entitled or meet the criteria.

Last year after falling ill and in and out of hospital, I signed up for the Priority Services Register as I was diagnosed with diabetes type 1 and gastroparesis. My medication is kept in the fridge. My weight had dropped to 34kg and I had an NJ feeding tube fitted for about 4 months. I’m still malnourished and underweight plus I’ve been unable to work due to vomiting and nausea each day and I’m in receipt of Universal Credit which Eon knows.

I feel as though I’m going round in circles trying to get the help I need as I’ve been told to wait, contact the government and today told to contact UC. All of this is causing me a lot of stress and anxiety as the temperature has dropped so much and I’m very cold but scared to put the heating on as I’m already struggling to pay the high direct debit each month and I do not want to increase my bill.

My next DD is on the 2nd November and I’m hoping this will have been sorted out before that date.

Is there anything else that I can do?

@EmmaN_EONNext. Hi Emma, yes I did register my interest but it took several calls to get the correct information needed.

Fortunately, today I received and email to complete an income and an expenditure which I’ve done. I’ve been advised they will get back to me in 48 hours to let me know if I’m eligible.

    Thanks for your support

    Hi Emma and everyone else,

So after many many calls and given the run around. I have been advised that I am not eligible even though I DO meet the criteria setup by Eon. I have put in a complaint about this and I’ve asked for the reason as to why I am not eligible as it doesn’t make any sense to me.

I spoke to someone on the winter support scheme team this morning and they have said that they will contact the team to see what else they need to do about this scheme for me. From what I have read about the criteria it is clear that I AM eligible. My concern is why advertise the criteria and then turn people down, this makes no sense and I feel that Eon is giving out false information to their customers.

After being able to pay my DD’s for years my situation has changed after becoming unwell last year, my illness is chronic and I’m underweight. They have been updated about my illness and are aware that I’ve gone from working to now being on UC. How can I be dismissed so quickly?

I’m in tears as I write this as I’m scared to turn my heating on because of the rising costs. I shouldn’t be sitting in a cold house in my condition. It just feels that my concerns fall on deaf ears.

I’ve just received an email from from Eon to say that they will reach out to energy specialist who was informed that I was not eligible to shed some light on this decision. It will be interesting to see just what made them come to that conclusion.

@Prettyeyez I'm just so sorry to hear how much this experience has had an impact. We wouldn't want anyone to feel upset especially if it's a difficult time 💜

Please know we're here to listen and support you where we can, I think the next best steps, are to wait for the relevant team to get back in touch and hopefully provide further information on the eligibility requirements.

With that being said, it doesn't mean that we cannot provide further resources and information that could provide help and support with your current circumstances. If you haven't heard for some time, pop me a message and I'd be happy to take a look 🔎

Hopefully your complaint handler will have an update for you soon.
    Keep me updated 🤗

The fundamental issue is that having published wide criteria for eligibility, it is clear that there are further unpublished hoops to negotiated. While it’s great that there’s a scheme at all, there is no indication of the funding committed or how many household will be supported.

m perhaps inadvertently, people have been misled.

The person I spoke to advised me to call th WST team again to see if they could shed further light. Called them, they couldn’t tell me anything and then advised to call the energy specialist team again! I’ve been passed from pillar to post and not one member of the eon team have been able to help me. I’m beginning to think that this is a Mickey Mouse company. Nothing has been resolved and why is it so difficult?

I feel as though I have been misled. Eon says they are there to help but have left me a vulnerable and unwell person in a state.
