Another thing that the article highlights is the (now higher) one-off cost to put an EV charger point at home. Horrfying numbers that I am seeing WRT depreciation for those that like to change their cars every few years. When I looked at the cost of EV motors the other week (in the 'Tesla thread') it made me come to the conclusion that my 10 year old petrol POLO will be going for a few more years yet. I know I cannot afford to do all the things that will make me as carbon-neutral as I could be. Many households will be in position of affording none of of these things (EV cars, Heat Pumps, Solar Panels etc etc)
Most EV's will happily plug into a conventional 13A socket allowing charging at 3kW/h. Overnight, with 12 hours charging between 8pm and 8am, that will put around 30kW+ into the battery. Unless you are doing enough mileage every day to rinse that amount of power, I can't see the point of installing an expensive charging point to charge any faster.

This is one of the new regulations that comes in this month. Interesting that it applies to EVs.
At the moment, it is not illegal to run out of fuel while driving, but it could mean a £100 fine and points on your licence. This has now been extended to electric car drivers.
Last year, the AA said it attended more than 10,500 breakdowns because motorists had run out of fuel or electric charge.
my Toyota Auris delivers 55mpg with no VED, as it’s 6 years old and on an earlier regime. I had my last car for 13 years before gifting it to my son. He used it for a further 5 years.
There is always a big difference between what people need and what they want. Our economy depends on people consuming things so I try not to knock those who spend money much faster than do I, for they keep lots of others in work and thus an income.
