I've been monitoring my usage as well by recording my readings each month. additionally i have a meter which is placed into a socket with an appliance then plugged into it which allows to to measure the consumption of it accurately and separately from all the rest.
The smart meter in home displays only show your total consumption at any particular point in time - you have to still figure out what appliances are guzzling your power yourself - my meter helps to identify those.
But in reality all appliances use power when they're on. Having them on all the time (refrigeration excepted) when you are not using them is wasting your money. Level 106-07-22@meldrewreborn thanks for your reply, that’s seems like an interesting setup you have there! You are already conscious of your energy usage and if it’s working well for you that’s great.
The benefit someone like yourself would get out of a smart meter would be the AMR capability. Your energy supplier would obtain readings from the meter remotely which in turn, should eradicate any future estimated bills! -

I've read my meters myself every month for years like @meldrewreborn, and entered them into my account so that I don't get estimated bills - just accurate ones.
For anyone that monitors their own usage by reading their meters, a smart meter makes it more difficult so it's certainly not a benefit in that respect. -

Level 107-07-22I have a current monitoring device on my electric and a monitor on my gas meter.
