Massively confused about price cap

Hi, I am super confused about the new price cap mainly because my fixed rate deal ends on the 17th April. I'm in an old cold terrace house, just had a new boiler and a smart meter fitted though. Am I best signing a new deal now before the prices go up, the advice I've seen seems to suggest doing nothing and letting yourself be moved onto standard rates so you are protected or something? Any help is much appreciated, like everyone I'm worrying about seeing my bill actually double

Coming off of a fixed rate and onto the variable price cap in April will see your bills go up very sharply. if you log into your online account you may be able to see what fixed price tariffs are open to you.
The price cap rates haven't been published by Eon next yet i think. So its very difficult to do a comparison.

I've calculated this data price cap data for Apr 2022 from the Ofgem data for electricity on single rate tariff paying by Direct debit. I provide it as an aid but accept no responsibility for any errors.

All prices include Vat and are in pounds (so typically 26 p per day standing charge in Yorkshire for gas plus 6.9 p per kWh)
Hope this helps. Prices are likely to increase again in October 2022.
