International Men's mental health week 10th - 15th of June.

Men’s Health Week began in the USA in 1994 following a Senate Joint Resolution. The Week was linked to Father’s Day in the USA and so always ends on that Day, the third Sunday in June). It became an international event in 2002 when it was first marked in the UK. As a society, we can help break the stigma behind Men's mental health and encourage men across the world to seek help if they need it.

Did you know?

  • One man in five dies before the age of 65 (Men’s Health Forum).
  • Four in five suicides are by men, with suicide the biggest cause of death for men under 35 (UK Parliament).
  • According to the BUPA Wellbeing Index:
    • '43% of working British men are urging their employers to provide greater mental health support.
    • 50% of men have struggled with mental health difficulties at some point, yet fewer than half have sought medical advice.
    • 37% of UK men admit actively hiding their mental health issues from their partners.
    • 30% of men surveyed said they didn’t know where to turn for advice or support.
    • 65% of employees recognise that stigma around men’s mental health remains strong.’

I talked about it a bit last year, but we have had many new members since so I thought I'd share again - I have personal experience in battling with my mental health - The biggest piece of advice I can give is
talk to someone - whether that be a Family member, Friend or a GP - while i'm in no means "cured", it does make a huge difference 😊

I also know that Money worries can have a huge impact on mental health - especially with the Cost Of Living Crisis we are all going through at the moment.
