About 3 weeks ago I changed from the Next Pledge tariff tp the 12 month fixed tariff. As of 3 days ago my IHD was still showing the old tariff rates to I emailed E.On to ask them to look into it. I understand that they just need to have the new rates sent to my smart meters, which will then update the IHD, usually by the next morning.
25 hours later I get a response asking me to send a photo of my IHD. I have no idea what difference this would make, but I sent it anyway.
After a further 23 hours I've just been to I need to "switch the device off completely and unplug. Let me know once this is done so that I am able to reset this for you on my end. Please note that this can take around 24hrs"
Why on earth would I need to switch off the IHD for them to send the data to my smart meter? Do they really believe this is necessary? After all, how would they know if the IHD is switched on or off and what difference would it make anyway?
your corrected tariff prices go to the meters and then from those to your IHD. Switching off your IHD provides no benefit. The energy specialist has conveyed incorrect information. You could make a complaint if you want to take it further but I would just write back pointing out why the information provided was completely incorrect and illogical. You just might stop somebody else being misinformed.
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and think the smart meter programme is a waste of our money. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
@solidbond
Total misinformation from CS. I've had this problem with incorrect tariffs showing on the IHD a few times over the years. A simple email asking for a tariff update sent through to hi@eonnext.com and over night problem solved.
The meter contains all the relevant information, which EOn will need to update
The IHD is just a display unit for the information on the meter (which gets updates every 10 seconds over the HAN with the near real time consumption)
I've had tariff rates regularly updated on my meter without any requirement to disconnect the IHD
On this forum you will often see postings where EOn's Customer Service advisors seem to think that the IHD is updated separately from the meter, and don't realise it's just a "repeater" display for the data held on the meter.
I think they need to give some re-education to their so called "Energy Specialists" (or maybe they're trying to cover up problems/delays with their internal systems by providing this mis-information 🤔)
Thanks to all for confirming that it wasn't me going mad! I must be getting old though, cos I told them I had switched the IHD off, but then realised I hadn't 😉. Amazingly enough, within 45 minutes the IHD was showing the correct tariff 🙄
