Eon not responsible for Economy 7 circuit times?

Well folks - I can confirm the following after 4 days monitoring R01(day)/R02(night) total consumption registers, and the corresponding 48 ToU ½ hourly usage values.

    As expected...
    • Registers (R01 + R02) match the sum of (hh01 thru hh48)
    • R02 is currently accumulating the 7 hrs usage between 01:30 and 08:30 (since the tariff hours set on the meter are 00:30 to 07:30 UTC) which would be billed at the cheap rate
    • and R01 accumulates the 1½ hrs before and the 15½ hrs after this, which would be billed at the at the standard rate
      • (luckily my billing is on the ½ hourly ToU readings from midnight to 7 local time)
    • For E7 users: if the ALCS calendar is not set to the same as the tariff timings, you will be billed on the incorrect values being accumulated in R01/R02
      • Now that people on E7 have smart meters (as long as they're working in "smart" mode), there doesn't seem to be any reason for basing the billing on the R01/R02 registers.
      • They could do exactly the same as they do for the Next Drive tariff, and bill based on the ½ hourly ToU
      • Or if they do insist on using the R01/R02 registers, they could ensure that on change of GMT/BST the meter's tariff timings and ALCS calendar are both updated to reflect "local time" ie BST in summer and GMT in winter (don't know if this would overload the DCC with too many meter update commands being sent, but modern computer systems should be able to handle a huge amount of online transactions)

they could ensure that on change of GMT/BST the meter's tariff timings and ALCS calendar are both updated to reflect "local time" ie BST in summer and GMT in winter

    • The DNO's determine E7 times for each region and are fixed within a distribution off-peak band
    • Having different suppliers providing E7 GMT or GMT + BST as standard would cause chaos
    • Many E7 consumers use timers rather than circuit switching, these would need to be adjusted as well and could be problematic

Agreed👍, but the issue is not with the ALCS switching times which stay exactly the same as it always has been, per region etc

The issue is that the suppliers are switching based on ALCS calendar timings, but billing on different time settings (possibly because they have incorrectly uploaded the calendar)

If they billed on the same times as the ALCS switching actually occurs, people wouldn't be being billed at peak rate for what should be charged as off-peak times.

Done their online complaint procedure on their website now, will see what they come back with, hopefully not all the rubbish I've had so far on WhatsApp.

    So got this reply today:
"Sorry to hear this issue has been ongoing for you, I can see it had been raised back in March. It appears further work is required for this to be rectified so I have passed this to the IFA team who deal with updating details on the account and once the issue has been rectified, which is causing the rates to be incorrect, I will contact you regarding the update of this as I will then have the ability to re bill the account to the correct rate.
    Hope this helps."

I'm still not sure they are getting the issue, I replied again with what needs done, will see what happens..

I agree, does the problem lie in your account or in the meter configuration? What does IFA stand for?
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and think the smart meter programme is a waste of our money. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.

Thanks for that . When Eon Next reply to a customer they should not use acronyms without giving the full terminology first.

My pleasure. If Eon Next are going to use acronyms then a glossary has to be easily accessed by customers.
I insisted when working on 2 important rules:
KISS and No jargon when dealing with public communications. 👴

@RobJM. Are the rates incorrect - which I interpret as tariff pricing. The issue is that the ALCS timing on the meter are incorrect, if they’re not tasked with the correct action they’re unlike to effect a proper fix.

Yes, I sent this with my first complaint, and also replied to their response with the following, again 🙄

"Account doesn't need any details updated, it's the meter that needs updated, by remotely sending an ECAUL command to my meter to adjust the ALCS times to 01:30-08:30.(instead of current 00:30-08:30)"

Hi, definitely meter configuration, Auxiliary Load Control Switch times need changed, this is what switches the Economy 7 circuit on and off, it should be in sync with tariff times, apparently a command can be sent to the meter to do this.
