From Friday 21st of March - Sunday 6th of April let's pick up a litter bag and Keep Britain Tidy!

The Great British spring clean is a nationwide litter-picking campaign, a mass-action environmental event encouraging individuals, groups, schools, and businesses to clean up their local areas ♻

Since it launched in 2016, incredible litter heroes across the country have pledged to pick more than 4 million bags of litter during the Great British Spring Clean 🤩 Show your love for where you live by helping clean up the places and spaces we care about!

Litter-picking is a simple action that anyone can do to make an immediate and visible difference to the environment 🌍

What are the effects of littering on the environment?

Pollution -

• Releasing harmful chemicals and micro-particles into the air as they decompose
• Contaminating waterways, including rivers, lakes, and oceans, by leaching chemicals into the water.
• Contaminating soil and creating a breeding ground for pests and diseases.

Wildlife 🐿

• Animals can become entangled in litter.
• Animals can mistake litter for food, leading to ingestion of harmful materials.
• Destroy wildlife habitats.

Human Health Risks -

• Disease Transmission
• Water Contamination
• Chemical Exposure

More than two million pieces of litter are dropped in the UK every day! Waste is everyone’s problem and everyone has a role to play in the solution.

@Poppy_EONNext I love the Great British Spring Clean I think it's super important for our planet 🌏 and our environment!

My daughter is part of a rangers club at school and every Tuesday they take an hour out to go litter picking 🚮 around the local streets, which I love the idea of as its super important to get the kids involved and educate them! 😊

What a lovely thing to do @Indyk_EONNext 😍 You are right it's so important to educate the next generation!

My daughter will always ask to do litter picking, we went to the seaside the other week and there was a pond full of swans with plastic bags floating in the water, she went and picked the ones she could reach and put them in the bin, I didn't even have to say anything, she absolutely loves animals and does get concerned with litter bless her 🤗

@Poppy_EONNext It's such an amazing campaign! My little Nephews the same 😀 Before I moved, I used to live in a house by the canal - my nephew always used to come round and want to go outside and look at the ducks and swans and clear any rubbish that they might get stuck on or try to eat 😊
