Martin Lewis is really an impressive character as shown in his evidence yesterday. He's first up, OFGEM chair follows, and then later still some ministers on a different topic.

The problem is that he speaks so quickly at times I'm sure the MP's are left confused, because they're not as familiar with these issues as Martin Lewis clearly is, but I'd say that many of us here can follow it all very clearly.!

A lot of debate on backbilling. Apparently about 3,000 cases go to the Energy Ombudsman each year, which is quite a low number, but surely it should be zero - the rules have existed for 7+ years. Cases only go to the ombudsman where the internal complaint process hasn't resolved the matter. Apparently a lot of backbilling cases relate to the suppliers not being able to get actual meter readings, and whether the supplier has tried hard enough to get those readings. That's not the impression I've got here on the forum, where the situations have been more clear cut. In her evidence a minister said that backbilling cases are raised to very senior levels in the supplier organisations. I think she is being told porkies.

Other debate around the fact that the energy ombudsman isn't set up on a statutory basis, so its decisions are not actually that enforceable.
