Changing to a Smart Meter

    When I bought my house 20 years ago it had two electricity meters with separate circuits. One for the house and one for the annexe where the previous owner's mother lived.
    One of the meters is failing and I am unable to read the digits to report my usage. Eon say I have to arrange to pay for an electrician privately to join up the two circuits before they will replace the faulty meter as they will then remove both meters and replace them with one smart meter.
    Having read Martin Lewis's money expert - it is possible to install smart meters and on a dumb setting so you still send in your meter readings.
    I say why can't they replace both meters with smart meters and send two separate bills so I don't have the expense of joining up the two circuits and also I can then sell the house in the future with the option for the purchaser to divide it up again.
    I feel I am being forced down this road against my will and the person I have been corresponding with at EON says there is no choice I have to combine the circuits.
    Thoughts appreciated.

    @Steloys22.

    On the face of it I see no reason why the existing separation cannot continue with 2 smart meters. I would apply to have one replaced first then the other later.

    if one of the meters is unreadable then the supplier is obliged to change it - suppliers are required to ensure meters are accurate in recording usage.

    Hey @Steloys22 welcome to the community 👋

    How do you currently use the supply is it 2 separate supplies where you are billed each month seperatley or is it a complex set up like economy 10 etc where you maybe have one for heating and hot water and the other controls your energy? I'm just trying to gather a bit more info to see if I can get any more information for you on your options. If you are unable to see your meter screen then it would need to be replaced so I'm wondering if there are any other options for you 🤔
