Dehumidifiers - Save Money

As we all know energy is very expensive in recent years. However I would like to share with you something that is not spoken about much and that is dehumidifiers. So I live in a one bedroom flat and I have a large two kilowatt electric radiator. However it was very difficult to get the room to reach at least 20 degrees Celsius even though the heater was giving out a lot of heat I could never get the room above 20 degrees. So I asked other people in the block and some suggested I buy a dehumidifier, they explained how they work in that they remove humidity from the air which makes the room heat-up faster and also retains the heat better because they dehumidifier will pull out all the moisture from the carpet from the walls from the furniture from the cupboards from the beds and the air will become much drier and will feel much warmer and you will need less heating on this point. Now I'm talking from experience and the transformation has been quite incredible in that I can easily get my room now to 23/24 degrees in a very short period of time --- meaning that I can turn my radiator off much much earlier than before. I would suggest to anybody who's in a similar situation to buy a dehumidifier, there are some very good ones on the market but you would need to spend about 170 pounds for a decent 12 or 20 litre capacity, they are very cheap to run as a present mine casts £0.09 per hour where's my radiator costs £0.50 an hour so you can imagine the savings I make right now. No more compensation on the windows in the morning no damp patches on walls and whole room just feels much fresher. You can also go into youtube have a look at some other testimonies but I assure you it will be a game changer for your home so please give it a try

Hi @NoMoreDamp 😀 Welcome to the Community!

Thank you so much for sharing this! I have been considering getting a dehumidifier for quite some time now as unfortunately I experience window condensation and have to use a window Vac most mornings during the winter time, which is an extra job I don't need 😅

I imagine this would be great for those who dry their clothes indoors too? 👚

if you have excess condensation it’s because you have insufficient ventilation. Our homes are much more air tight than they used to be and so moisture from living breathing cooking and washing stays indoors rather than escaping.
we have a tumble dryer in the garage. I measured the water collected from an average load and it was 800ml!. If that water wasn’t captured and that washing was dried inside that water would be in the air inside- just an example. Ventilation changes the air with fresh air from outside, fresh air that is usually colder than the air it replaces, that’s the trade less condensation means higher heating costs.

as to a dehumidifier making you feel warmer , I’m of the opinion that humid air makes you feel warmer, as sweat cannot evaporate so easily. In the summer a dehumidifier will make you feel more comfortable as sweat would evaporate more easily.

Efforts to reduce internal condensation will be rewarded by avoiding a build up of black mould,
