Hi
had my regular system boiler service Thursday and British gas had 2 cut off. Safety issue. I have no heating. I have electric fire in one room room only but seems expensive to relay on long term? I know eon do not fit boiler anymore. B gas said bout £2800 to replace like for like. Lot of money but interest free for 3 years. Does anyone know of any grants available if no boiler? All ones i looked at either heat pump ones. Or insulation only. I grants would take serval months? I am on esa and pip so limited incomd .Own house .
Thanks for any info. Sorry if message in wrong place. N sims
is the current boiler irreparable? What is actually wrong with it. I’d get a local firm to look at it.
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
I agree with @meldrewreborn. Get a reliable local firm to look at the boiler to see what's wrong, and whether it can be repaired. If it can't be repaired contact your local council or maybe Citizens Advice to see what boiler replacement schemes are available in your area.
Presumably BG supplied you with some documentation detailing why they cut you off and specifically the reasons why they condemned your boiler. As per @Tommysgirl and @meldrewreborn I would ring a local installer(s) and see if the boiler is reparable showing them the reasons given.
The BG engineer should have applied a 'Danger Do Not Use' warning label to it in line with the Gas Industry Unsafe Situations Procedure (GIUSP). The label will categorise the boiler as Immediately Dangerous (ID) or At Risk (AR) and give information about what needs to be addressed. There have been complaints in the media about companies condemning boilers in order to sell you a new one!
Second opinion certainly needed to determine whether you need to go along the lines of a total replacement or a repair. Best of luck getting sorted ASAP 👍
BTW were you on a service and repair plan with BG?
Well said, and excellent advice 👍. I've seen some of the complaints in the media about companies condemning boilers deliberately in order to sell new ones, or try and push customers into buying heat pumps.
The knee jerk reaction of “I need a new boiler” in these circumstances has to be resisted, but time pressure and lack of heat in the winter period can be powerful incentives to go that way.
I acknowledge a vehicle needs a test and service annually but I really think the annual servicing of boilers is a scam.
In my case I had a new Viessmann boiler installed in November with a long warranty 12 years and part of the terms of said warranty is a regular service. I'll be using the local Viessmann installer for this and it will be cheaper than the BG service plans as well.
