I have just moved into my first home and am looking to switch energy suppliers and the one the previous owner was with is not the cheapest rate.
I would like to go with EON but don't understand why when I try and sign up it is saying that I need to pay a fixed amount monthly when I inputted that the house has a smart meter...surely you pay for what you used based on smart meter readings?
I am so out of my depth here so any help would be greatly appreciated!
Evening @lucy108 Your best option if you want to pay for what you use, via a Direct Debit, and not have a credit balance, is to phone Customer Services. You'll be able to discuss your tariff preferences and once you are happy with that ask for a VariableDirectDebit (VDD) to be set up. This will mean you will only pay for what you use. Payments will be higher in the winter and lower in the summer.
Unfortunately you can only set up a Fixed Direct Debit online, and this will generate a credit balance particularly during lower usage periods, such as the summer.
if you start the Fixed DD now it will be in debit through the winter period tracking to zero in 12 months time.
