I have a detached house with a separate garage 5M away. The meter box is on the opposite side of the house from the garage. Into the garage from under the ground up the outside wall comes a thick black cable about 1 cm wide, which feeds a small fused distributor box inside the garage for lights, power supply to the shutter doors etc.

Is this size cable likely to be adequate to run a car charger, as I'd prefer not to have to run a cable all the way round the house, dig up the patio and create a point that way.

I appreciate that I may need to consult an electrician, but I'd like an opinion before I get to that point.
