The old electric meters are refurbished, and then sold off as there is a strong market for conventional meters outside of the domestic metering market.
Gas meters are broken up and the metal sold for scrap.
When your meters were changed, the engineer should have left a card by the meters with both the readings from the old meters and the initial readings from the new meters. Check that the readings are correct on your billing statements. If not, you will need to phone Customer Services to get them to look into it.

Hi thank you, sent an email & got nowhere really. So l rang the customer service & the nice lady agreed with me the meter reader had probably put 5 instead of 2 , she is going to get it changed it will take couple of days.
Thank you so much, no more lying on the floor to get a gas meter reading. -

Hi further update after eonext taking the £800 off the electric bill l was left with £95 to pay, which seemed an awful lot for 14 days, so l called again & tonight they have credited my account with £50. Leaving £45 to pay which lm ok with.
many thanks.

Hi l still have to give monthly readings as the smart meter is unable to do this, occasionally l get a daily or weekly reading, so l still have to lay on the floor to read the gas meter.

you may want to register for the priority service register - you can then have your meter reader- perhaps quarterly . Alternatively if your in home display is working you might be able to get a reading from that.Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio.
