@retrotecchie 's advice is 'spot on'. You might find when you call Customer Services that they'll try to persuade you to stay on a fixed Direct Debit, but insist you want to change to variable. They'll be able to change it while you're on the phone. Get the name of the person you're speaking to as a point of reference, and maybe ask them to email you that they've changed your payment method to variable Direct Debit.
