On his show earlier in the week Martin Lewis said that fixed rates had come down a little so it might pay to check.

So I went and checked and for this supplier at least it wasn't true for me in my area today.

But I'll keep checking as the ability to switch to a cheaper fix with no exit fees (so long as you stay with Eon Next) is pretty much a no lose lose option.
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.

My preferred comparison site for domestic energy is energylinx. On there my current tariff , Next Fixed 12m v28 could only be bettered a little (remember for my region and my consumption mix of gas/electricity).

It was though interesting to look at other tariffs where rival suppliers are reducing standing charges and increasing unit prices in their offering of fixed tariffs. The results were pretty much very similar though.

Only variable tariffs (which most people are on ) have to conform to the OFGEM price cap.
