Eon have done a hard search on my credit report that has dropped my score quite significantly and I’m not sure why.
I moved house last month and Eon was the supplier when we moved in but we switched straight away so I’m not sure why Eon is doing checks on my report when I’m not a customer and never have been.
I have only contacted them once in the past month to dispute a bill that was for a period from before we moved in. Once the bill period was corrected I paid it straight away. Would this have been why they checked my report? To check the move in date?
More importantly, is there anything I can do about this?
A search by a utility company won't make more than a 10 point difference on a credit score. The change of address would likely have had more of an impact as I've found in the past. Until you have a three year continuous history at a new address, that can make a difference to the report.
I'd go through the report and see what other factors have contributed to the change in score. Most significant changes will usually have a note or an explanation as to why there has been an impact. A hard search won't affect anything by very much at all unless you have multiple hard searches in a very short timespan.
Incidentally, not being on the electoral register for your new address is one of the biggest factors that can affect a credit score.

Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.
Did you switch you take your tariff with you when you moved in or did you set up a brand new account? If your account number has changed this is an indication that you have a new account.
This is one reason that a credit check would have been conducted. If you signed up online this would have been done automatically however if you spoke to an energy specialist they should have made you aware that a credit check was being carried out before this was done. If they didn't make you aware then I would suggest getting in touch with an energy specialist to have your concerns raised and this will be fed back 😊
