EV Tariff

@as400 - hopefully with new meters you'll be lucky and have one which shows both tariff rates (mine only is capable of storing a single value)

These values are only used for approximate calculations of your usage costs displayed on your IHD - your billing calculations will use the true Next Drive tariff values, so if the meter hasn't got the correct values don't worry.

Bright will also get the tariff values from your meter, so if they're not correct on the meter its cost calculations won't be correct. However Bright does have the facility to override them and insert your own correct dual ToU tariff rate values and timings, which is what I've had to do since Bright only picks up a single tariff value from my meter.
In all likelihood your meter will be able to do the multi-rate - It's E.ON who can't (or unwilling) to send the TOU tariff to it, but using Bright is a good workaround.

In my case, they've sent the 2 rates, but not the times so it assumes my previous off-peak period of 21:00-07:00

Chatted to customer support who have initiated the move from standard tariff to EV via their specialist team.

He did warn though that the daily tariff outside the favourable time (00:00 - 07:00) would be more than I am currently paying so this move is only worthwhile if you are doing considerable mileage and need to re-charge your EV frequently.

Thank you for your update. The good advice from Customer Services is pleasing to hear. I suppose it goes to show that sometimes it better to speak (on the phone) to a human being rather than just push buttons and pray. 👴Hoping all goes well and don't hesitate to keep us updated on your total experience. Have a great weekend. 🌞

The flip side of that though, is that you can put a lot of your other high energy use into the cheap period using smart plugs/time switches etc ( I recommend the TP-link Tapo P110 smart plugs which have a scheduler and also an energy use monitor - I use one to schedule my EV charging as I don't use a dedicated charging point )

I set the washing machine on at 6am; immersion heater for ½hr at 6:30; even cook a chicken at 5:30am then just slice off what I need in the evening and re-heat in the microwave 🤓
