Hi all, I’m new here and looking for help and advice.
We currently have a standard meter and had previously a few years ago tried to have a smart meter installed only to be told there was no signal and had to put up with the old standard meter.
Anyway I’ve got an appointment on Tuesday to try again now but I’m concerned the same thing will happen.
I thought in Scotland it used radio frequencies to communicate so really should there be a problem and is there a way to boost this?
I have also found out that a neighbour about 100 yards down the street has a successful smart meter and had it for a few years so I really don’t understand why mine wouldn’t work last time.
Anyway if anyone can advise of ways to check signal strength and whether I should be okay this time and if there’s anyway of boosting the signal if needed I’d be really grateful.
There's nothing you can do to boost the signal. Arqiva's Long Range Radio in Scotland is what it is. Some areas in Scotland are 'not spots' for the signal, and you will have problems if you live within 10 miles of any police or emergency services headquarters or too close to Coalport of Faslane.
The only way you will know is when the metering team turn up and try and install it.
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.
i wouldn’t say im near these types of places and the fact a few of my neighbours have a smart meter makes me think i should be able to get one too though this was the case last time round and it still didn’t work.
i guess ill have to wait and see what tomorrow brings as thats when my appointment is.
I’ve now had a new smart meter installed however it wouldn’t connect, I find this strange because my neighbours have one working okay.
anyway cutting to the chase, does anybody know if there’s a way to check if it does miraculously start working? The engineer didn’t leave an in home display presumably because it wouldn’t work so I’ve no idea how to go about checking.
How did you get on with your smart install is everything working ok now?
There can be lot's of things that can cause difficulties with signal things such as having thicker walls, where your meter is situated, trees in the way etc.
There could be other things that have an impact such as your meter set up, what type of meter you have such as if it's single phase or 3 phase single rate or multi rate as these can all have an impact too.
