New smart meter needed to change from Flex to Eco 7 tariff?

    Hi,
    I have a working smart meter (finally) and am currently on the Next Flex tariff, i.e. the meter currently has a single rate tariff. After having Solar (panels and battery) fitted last month I would like to change tariff from Flex to Eco 7.

    I've had a few discussions with customer services and am informed that my meter needs to be changed to a multi rate meter at a cost of £157 to myself in order for this to happen.

    Is this correct? My understanding is that SMETS2 meter can have the tariff changed remotely. Are EON unable to do this?

    I'd like to stay with EON, but having contacted Octopus following my discussions with EON customer service, Octopus informed that it would no problem to remotely update my meter with the new Octopus tariff if I change supplier.

    Who do I speak to at EON to clarify this? Customer service seems to be oblivious to the fact that the meter tariffs can be updated remotely.

    They have stated that they have a SMETS2 meter. It would appear they are currently on a single rate tariff, but want to switch to a multi-rate one.

    All SMETS2 meters are 'multi-rate' capable - 48 to be precise.

    It can be configured as recording single or multi by the supplier. Other suppliers have no issue with this, but there is a 'computer says no' issue at play with E.ON Next - I've been around this loop with customer services and I still don't think anyone grasped it, although finally on the tariff I wanted. There must be some old script from the Ecomony7 meter days that hasn't been updated...

    Hi,
    Apparently not, my meter only has one rate, but my understanding is this can be changed remotely rather than a new meter installed. Following my conversation with Octopus, that's how they would do it, update the software remotely. Is this possible, and / or do EON not do this?

    Yes, this is exactly what I wish to do and is also my understanding of the capabilities of the SMETS2 meter I have fitted.

    Since purchasing my property 2003 the tariff was set at Economy 7. In 2018 I requested E-onext to fit a smart meter (dual tariff). I rented out my home 2018-2024. At some point the tariff was changed to a single tariff with British Gas. On returning to the property I am having difficulty getting E-onext to return the tariff to Economy 7. I get told in numerous calls to E-0next that my request has been forwarded to the ISE (Instructions For Further Action) I want to sell the property, the purchaser (a landlord) will not complete the purchase until the change is made. I am legally unable to rent the property until the change is made. Can you advise how I can put pressure on the ISE.

    Under what strange and arcane law are you 'legally unable to rent the property'? Having studied rental rules and regulations in some depth, not having Economy 7 isn't usually a barrier.

    Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.

    You are technically correct but I think @Issa may be constrained by the intended purchaser not want to buy with a sitting tenant. Perhaps legally constrained was not the best use of words, the thrust of the issue is about getting the meter economy 7 compliant, some thing we volunteers can’t accelerate.
    Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.

    Hi The property is an all electric flat built in 1995 with smart twin tariff meter fitted, by E-on in 2018. The EPC computer rating is F rating. Previously the energy rating was E. I had the storage heaters removed and high spec wall heaters fitted. (after the pleadings of the tenant). A tenant moved from E-On to British Gas on a single Tariff. The flat has lagging in walls and floor, but I cannot prove it. The council do not have the information re insulation at built. The builder went bankrupt, no paperwork. The EPC 'people' have told me that on a manual check they found I would be upgraded on a re-check if I had an Economy 7 tariff. The British Gas could not change tariff. I returned to E-on on the understanding I would be returned to an Economy 7 tariff................... A new EPC was required to sell property. No sitting tenant. The buyer is a landlord.
