I had a smart meter installed months ago to measure electricity consumption. It has never worked. I still need to provide Eon Next with monthly readings.
The engineer who installed the meter said he would return a few days later to supply and connect the indoors display. He never came back.
Radio waves are funny old things. Your neighbour may just be within the very edge of a reception area and you might just be outside the limit.
Your neighbour may have a different brand of communications hub that may or may not have slightly better range than yours.
You meter may be affected by interference issues, or even by the materials used in the construction of your property.
There are any number of reasons why a smart meter may work fine in one location but will not work just ten metres away.
Is your meter actually visible on the smart network? If it is, then the issue lies with E.On Next. If it's not visible then there is obviously a communication issue.
See whether or not your meter is visible to the network here:
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.
Yes Joe, I did contact Eon Next Customer Service. The person I spoke to did not appear to me as having any particular technical expertise to address the issue. They told me that the meter did not work because it could not communicate with the receiving infrastructure. I find this explanation difficult to accept as my neighbour's meter, located indoors and only a very short distance away, but installed by a different provider, seems to work perfectly.
