Did anyone else have their tariff increased when E.ON Next took over from nPower?

    When E.ON Next took over nPower they sent an email saying that there would be no immediate change in tariff; there might be a change when the price cap changed in October.

    However, dedicated energy specialist Gemma has just informed me that my tariff changed by what appears to be a significant amount at the time of take-over. Silly me, I hadn't checked; I didn't realise that relationships with utility companies had now become adversarial.

    It might be worth other people going back and checking.

    @CaseyRoo Thanks for posting, a few questions jump to mind for me here - firstly was your Npower unit rate inclusive of VAT? E.ON Next rates are inclusive of VAT so it may seem like your unit rates were higher.

    Other things to consider - what tariff were you on? If you were on the standard variable tariff then this would have been the same here however when the price cap changed your unit rates would also change. If you were on a fixed rate tariff then this would have remained the same until your tariff term ended, after this you would have been placed on the standard variable tariff if you didn't fix with us.

    Without posting any personal information it might be helpful for us to see an example of your bills showing unit rates for both periods 😊

    Without more detail its difficult to comment on the substance of this. The bottom line is whether you were overcharged or not. Is that what you are suggesting?

    As one who checks all bills (including the supermarket where I was charged for 5 of one item instead of 4 yesterday) I can be fairly sure it wouldn't have happened to me.

    All companies and organisations will make mistakes, indeed its possible that Gemma gave you erroneous or incomplete information when you spoke .And there were a lot of customers transferred from nPower to Eon Next and I don't recall this type of query before.
    Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.

    When my account was transferred over from NPower, the only thing that changed was the billing period from quarterly to monthly. My tariffs stayed the same. I agree with @meldrewreborn that it's difficult to comment on your query without knowing all the details. Are they looking into whether you've been overcharged, it might be worth you asking them to, just in case they've made a mistake.

    Yes, I am contesting what they charged me - in 2021 they took three times what they charged in 2018. I haven't been able to get them to look at this - they simply swerve the question. Meldrewreborn: I was quite seriously ill for most of this time period, and didn't check my bank statements as I should have done, but I did phone them a few times asking them to confirm that I was on the best possible tariff, which they did.

    Morning @CaseyRoo I've just checked through my statements from 2/1/2019 (NPower) to 2/1/2021 (Eon Next). No significant or unexpected changes/charges. Only just as @Tommysgirl mentioned the change in billing schedule.

    Prices were different (not hugely ) in 2021 compared to 2018. It isn't about bank statements, its about energy bill/statements. The questions to be answered are: were you charged properly for your actual energy consumption in the relevant time periods and were the prices charged correct as well. So essentially were the readings and prices accurate. There are many other factors which can obscure and confuse, but eventually it comes back to consumption and prices.

    The other thing is are you talking about fixed monthly Direct Debit amounts being charged to your bank account or are you talking about actual billing.

    I doubt that many of us were happy about rising energy prices. You are clearly not happy about your charging - but to resolve matters like this needs facts. And we here on the forum can't actually change anything relating to your account. You need to discuss this matter with an energy specialist , but you need to get your facts and figures sorted first. Just being unhappy with what you were paying counts for very little.

    I'm sorry to hear that you've been seriously ill, but I'm afraid that isn't particularly relevant to the matter.

    This is what your dedicated energy specialist Jemma sent me about the tariffs immediately before and after the migration to E.ON Next:

    1st October 2020 - 10th December 2020
    Unit Rates:
    Day 18.624p/kwh
    Night 9.545p/kwh
    Standing Charge : 22.052p
    Unit Rates:
    Heat 16.103p/kwh


    Migration to Eon Next 10th December 2020


    11th December 2020 -31st March 2021
    Unit Rates:
    Day 20.80p/kwh
    Night 10.66p/kwh
    Standing charge 21.97p
    Unit Rates:
    Heat 16.10p/kwh

    The price cap changed that year in September.

    As far as I can tell, nPower's unit rates were VAT inclusive. But I have made a rough calculation assuming that Power's rate did not include VAT and adding 5% to see if that was in line with E.ON Next's charge. Adding 5% to nPower's tariff does not bring it even close to that charged by E.ON Next.

    Can you verify Gemma’s information from your bills from the time?

    This must be an unusual tariff because of the heat price which is in addition to what would be found on an E7 type supply.
