I got a new Smart Meter (KAIFA MA120) put in a few months ago. I don't have an electric car and I don't have Economy 7 heating. I am on a single rate tariff but I seem to see Day and Night Readings and that is what I am asked to put in if I want to add a reading to my account. Is this correct?
Surely I should only see 1 reading - or is this standard for all new SMETS2 meters in preparation for if I ever changed to a 2 rate tariff?

Reason: To show my meter type
@BlairD
Afternoon. Pop a couple of photos on the thread of your meter and the 2 readings. What tariff does your on line account say you've got? Hopefully some of the learned members can give advice.
Hi, Sorry not at home just now so will have to wait till I can get some taken but from notes I had made it cycles through some screens and shows following:
Date
Time
Something about "Load Limit Status" and states Inactive
-A
+A
The -A I think is Night reading and +A is Day reading.
Now when I contacted E-On it did seem like they had put me to a 2 rate tariff straight after installing the meter. After I called and asked what was going on they acknowledged I should be on a single rate and then what they did was update my tariff so that both rates were same as if I had been on a single flat rate. I recently changed to the Pledge Tariff - Next Pledge Tracker 12m V3 and said to them that I should be single flat rate but again it shows a Day and Night rate (albeit both with same value). So not sure if this is standard or if I should just have the one rate and they still haven't fixed it properly.
I'll have a good read at this when I am home and when in front of the meter. However, looking at that other thread (and if I am reading it right) then it suggests that I will always have Day and Night Readings but essentially only have the 1 charging rate?

I must admit that's how I read it. It might be worth double checking with Customer Services. https://eonnext.com/contact
I was told that I had a dual rate meter so even if I have a flat rate I will always need to have a day/night reading.
unfortunate thing is that the dual rate meter was installed incorrectly and I have been told if I want it changed I can pay £152 to have it replaced with a single rate meter ☹️
Personally, I'd find it no real hardship to give the two readings once a month. But having a day/night two rate meter does give you the option to opt for a two-rate tariff later on down the line if need be. But as it's a smart meter, they should be able to take the readings automatically, once they have established communication successfully.

Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.
@retrotecchie yep that is what I said. As it is a smart meter they get the readings themselves so it shouldn't really affect me. As long as I am being charged the right rate I am happy I said.
