Hope you have been looking at the correct Bright app 🧐
Waiting for current data on ihd

I really like the Bright app but haven’t tried any of the others. I’ve never read the reviews but it’s free so if you don’t like it you can just uninstall.I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit. -
I've had a look at the reviews I can see posted on the (Google) Play store and the Apple (AppStore) and yes ratings are at first sight somewhat discouraging although possibly a number of reviewers are maybe expecting too much from them. The version of Bright that I am using v 0.3.31, used in an Android device, allows the user the ability to 'add new' tariff details within the app. This would be highly beneficial to anyone needing to know the £ cost (previous day and earlier). But for me personally the value of Bright lies in its ability to change between display units of cost (£) OR energy (kWh). It is the latter I use in my own spreadsheets and I would use Bright's energy data for my monitoring if my IHD pegged out in the future. For those that like charts then Bright can display the information in an understandable form (unlike the hideous ivie app that I find horribly unfathomable). So long as DCC is able to get data flows from your smart meter then I believe Bright gives everything that can be given in an energy monitoring app. Loop and Hugo I've not tried but not heard any negatives about them either notwithstanding the day-late issue that affects all these 3rd part apps AFAIK. For me the only additional pieces information that an IHD provides are
- The actual meter reads (saves you looking at the meters in the cupboard)
- The 'usage now' function for electricity i.e the draw of all the electrical appliances at the time you are looking at it whereas monitoring plugs can only monitor one appliance at a time.

EOn don't seem to be able to upload dual ToU tariff rates onto your meter (and consequently your IHD), or provide dual rates in their own app.
Bright initially picks up the incorrect rates from your meter but allows you to enter your actual rates, and if it's a dual "Time of Use" tariff the times when the rates are effective. So consequently you can see your true costings for the night and daytime usage.
Unfortunately there's still a bug in Bright where it calculates the costs based on its local time (GMT or BST) - so consequently historical usage recorded during BST are currently slightly, out since the midnight to 1am usage is now being calculated as if it were 23:00 to midnight which is the higher rate. (The cost calculation was correct whilst Bright's local time was in BST)
This won't affect most people but makes (in my case) about 60p per day difference for historical costs to people where their cheaper rate starts at midnight -
DIY job. A Live and Neutral feed which can come from anywhere...even the end of a cable plugged in to a regular socket, and a current transformer which just goes round the Live incomer to the consumer unit. I've just ordered a couple and will report back when I've tried it out 👍
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons. -
No you've lost me besides SWMBO would not allow me this kind of DIY 😆 electricity is like cotton to us - we are perfectly happy to wear it but have no idea how it works 🤣. The very thought of electrons surging through my body gives me the willies.
Newsflash SWMBO has presented me with a bathroom handle that has come loose. 😬 Privacy in the loo is the No 1 priority now. 😆
