You can do that easily enough just looking at the kWh numbers. The more you use, the more it costs, regardless of what the actual unit price is.
I don't have, don't need and don't want a smart meter. I have a household 'budget' of a maximum of 10kWh per day but ideally like to be below 8kWh. Simple enough to look at the meter every day and make a note of the last 24 hour's usage. If I'm close to the budget or a little over, I can cut back. If I'm under budget, I know I can maybe put the tumble drier on for an hour. The cost in £ or p is secondary to the actual energy usage.
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.
I'm not going outside looking at my meter every day!
I'm.happy with a smart meter, I just want the display to tell me what I'm using.
Thanks
kWh IS telling you what you are using. And your IHD will tell you that even if the tariff isn't correct.
I go outside to read my meter every day. As I don't have a smart meter, I have no option but a minute out of my life is no hardship and something I've been doing for the last twenty years. I appreciate that the IHD should be able to accurately show in pounds and pence how much you are using, but unfortunately this isn't always the case. The hype and advertising rarely lives up to reality, I'm afraid, and as the IHD is an 'optional extra' and not legally mandated as part of the Metering Regulations, there is zero incentive for suppliers to fix issues or live up to their claims.
I just want the whole family to see how much we are using on a daily basis.
so when my teenage daughter has her hair to gs, straighteners, hairdryer etc on all day I can explain why!!!
Bright can do this albeit with a circa 24h delay and your smart meters are connecting to DCC (which they are seemingly). I know you'd like Eon Next to replace the current IHD with one that works but after 12 months they have no obligation to do this unfortunately. Even buying a new unit might not be the answer which is why we are also suggesting low-cost alternatives to start with - online app (Bright), monitoring plugs such as this or the good old fashioned meter read. 👍

I like the sound of the online app!
This is a better solution. I'll have a look at this and report back later. Thank you

I wish my smart meters would communicate but haven't regularly for quite a long time. Hence manual readings and submissions. At least you have meters that do. The future will be rosy but there is a long way to go in resolving all the issues in a very complex network. You are not alone. I sympathise with your frustration.

Yes the display is just a great instant way of looking at what's going on.
I've just downloaded an app called Hugo which has decent reviews.
Just waiting for verification and then will give it a go.
I'll report back, hopefully its decent and I can check away the display unit!!!

The Hugo app (not used it but as you say good reviews) should give you the same functionality that the Bright app does but it looks like the usage data (like Bright) is populated for yesterday and previous weeks, months etc. 👍
