Aww that's fantastic Conner I've had many a brush with wildlife in need I once found a baby bird it was the tiniest thing I'd ever seen we were driving in bad rain and I happened to see it in the middle of the road wet threw to this day I still find it amazing he was no bigger than my thumb we pulled over i gently picked him up has he was drying out in the car sitting on my hand I could see he was very joung maybe fell from a nearby tree it was quite windy that day too so I took him to a local birdman we know he was eventually released into a wooded area were he takes the others I have many story's similar all different animals it's absolutely without a doubt soul fulfilling glad there's many out there doing the same π€
Morning @Tracy we had a young Jackdaw last year (2023) who decided to fly the nest too soon. With help from his mum, some food from the local RSPB shop and a water pistol (Sorry to cat π± lovers that was to disparage the local cats from having Jack the Lad π for lunch) we were able to get him firing on all cylinders. We do have quite a few Rooks Crows and Jackdaws around us. I'm sure I can still hear him when I go into the garden. π
PS We decided he was a he but truth is we had no idea. π
Ha ha I'm sure he or she won't mind π€ aww yea I like cats but I've had a few run Ins with the local tabby with birds π€ͺ we have a bluetit nesting in our bathroom fan little guy bin there a few years now he's no trouble really fan still work and we live together in harmony so I've left him would be weird not to hear him in there now quite like to think he's my bluebird of happiness π
@Tracy
I think my favourite garden friend is our robin. He's (I'm sure-ish that he is a he) always around particularly when weeding. As soon as we finish one area he's there looking for what ever we have disturbed. π Even when we just go out into the garden he's watching π us and will come close. He does taunt the local cats π letting them get near and then fly off. A canny lad π.
Robins love human interactions they would happily help you do the gardening if they could lol π this bird made me see life a lot different a few summers away there was a white finch that obviously had escaped he was on the fence really depleted little guy hungry thirsty he literally jumped into my partner's hands he brought him into me I luckily had taken in a white budgie at the time so he went into her cage it was a match made in heaven but this made me realise there are no coincidences I had just that week changed my password to whitebird 2 has the budgie ruby was 2 but has the story shows I did actually end up with 2 white birds that week π€
Did you know that today is National Hedgehog day π¦ Apparently the data shows that between 30% and 75% of rural hedgehogs have been lost nationally since 2000 and numbers have plummeted across the countryside. This makes me so sad, they're so important to our eco system and they keep all the nasty critters out of your garden too!
We used to get hedgehogs in our garden but since we got our cat we don't see them anymore. I'm thinking about getting a little hedgehog house to see if it encourages them back.

Hi aww I love hedgehogs I have a hut in the garden and my gates have a gap so they can move freely around many rural places now have hedgehog doors in the walls and fences now a lot more people are aware and helping them now which is fantastic I always have a small plant pot saucer in the garden with water for them too In the summer months especially it's a must for many animals I have 4 bird baths too lol it's lovely for us to get that sunshine but I'm always aware it dries the natural water that wildlife need too after all we have taps they don't x
