my question is I was going to leave over £100 in credit and take the remaining back, why does it matter if there’s a pending charge for a few pounds? Why can’t I have my money?
Account in credit

Hello I rang up this morning as I’m in credit and asked for the money to be put back in to my bank account, the person on the phone has told me that there is a pending gas charge so they can’t put the money back until that clears.
my question is I was going to leave over £100 in credit and take the remaining back, why does it matter if there’s a pending charge for a few pounds? Why can’t I have my money? -

It is not always straightforward to get a credit refund. You are entitled to all of your credit balance back but you will probably find that your monthly DD will increase, particularly at this time of year. There is a thread here about requesting a credit refund.
Your Fixed monthly DD is set so that your account balance is at zero at the end of your contract. This means building up a credit balance ahead of the winter months.
Some customers choose a Variable DD where the amount of DD taken each month matches the amount on your bill. This means you will pay more each month in the winter of course. If you want to pay by Variable DD you will need to contact customer service. Your credit balance will be used up first to cover future bills and after that is used up you will have DDs taken. There will then be no more credit balances on your account.I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit. -
I don’t have a direct debit I just pay the bill in full every month.
I spoke to someone this morning who said I can’t request a refund as there’s a pending gas charge of £3 something. It just doesn’t make sense to me. -
That's odd. Normally credit balances build up as a result of Fixed DD payments. I can't see how a credit balance would build up if you pay on receipt of bill 🤔 -

Oh blimey. Those things cause a lot of confusion. Do they make sense to you?
You could submit some manual meter readings and that will generate a new statement and bring your account up-to-date. If there is any credit balance then this will be reduced instead of you having to make any payment. -
It’s about 8 pages long, so it’s very confusing it makes no sense to me.
I reached out on the WhatsApp group and they are saying I haven’t been charged for every month I’ve been here but I absolutely have and I made a full payment every time. -

We had a very confusing case like this a little while back that took a bit of time to sort. As you have been paying on receipt of bill are you confident that you have actually built up this credit balance? If it was me I would not be rushing into asking for a refund until the account is put right to everyone's satisfaction. If you are paid the refund and then a mistake gets rectified then they are liable to ask you to pay it back.
