E.on has contacted me (09.10.2023) to say that my smart meter will soon stop working. As this is a relatively new SMETS2 meter I am a little puzzled. Is this to do with 3G being turned off? Anyone else had this?
@Dennis70 It might be something to do with 3G. Did the communication from Eon Next not give any indication to why your meters will stop? If you could post a little more information some of the very learned members in the community might be able to advise. Perhaps some photos of your meters and communication hub would help.
Which part of the country do you live? Are you by chance on Economy 7/10 tariff?

No but I don't expect to living in 'The North'. My smart meter connects via long-range radio provided by Arqiva rather than the cellualr network. So I should be unaffected. Smart meters in the central and south regions will have interesting times ahead for sure.
@Dennis70 Thank you for the photo and copy of the text message. I'm almost sure the number is for Eon Next BUT I'm going to tag in @EmmaN_EONNext who will confirm one way or another it is. Can't promise anything but EmmaN might even have some insight why your meters will stop working. Absolutely no promises though.

Hi @Dennis70 👋
Sometimes smart meters stop working correctly for a variety of reasons and once it has been picked up we'll send out a text message/email to let you know. Please don't worry! It's genuine 🙌
We have a dedicated team working on this that will be in touch soon and hopefully they can give you a little more info 😊

@WizzyWigg Thanks for your help. EmmaN has now replied. I'm going to wait and see what the reason is.
