Yes its a far from pleasant job with a low pitch roof. Perhaps rolling out a long 1 metre wide strip and then easing it in at 90 degrees to the joists might work. Remember not to block air transit into the loft to ensure moisture levels are kept low. Its great when its finished.
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
And always good to have a socket or two in a loft too, if possible. Either for the occasional use of an inspection lamp or power tools if you need to do anything up there with the lights off. I used to keep an off site backup computer in the loft which used to do daily unattended incremental backups from the main server in the office. Oh, and several AAA battery chargers for keeping the LEGO trains running.
All my cables were LS0H run in galvanised conduit so no problem with packing the place with insulation. But that is belt and braces.
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.

Yes mositure is a curse although better than it was last winter (with the unknown leak) - put some eaves vents in earlier this year as well.
I finally got round to having a good look in my loft. 😬
The good news is the repairs to the roof (specifically the channel between two sections of roof needed supporting from inside) effected 11 months ago has now meant that watertight integrity has been re-established (I wonder whether it ever was?) 😁. Not a drop of water ingress seen in the recipticles I left up there 11 months ago just in case. No sign of any condensation drops either on any of the rafters. Maybe the eaves vents that I put up last winter have helped in the section of the roof above the lounge (where last year's leak was discovered) but winter is yet to arrive 🙄 so I'll reserve judgement until the end of winter.
I also looked and measured the insulation up there and the thickness is all over the place (ranging from 50mm at the worst area to maybe 200+mm or so at best. It goes without saying that the areas that appear to have the thinest (@ 50mm) level of insulation (where you can see the ceiling joists) is the space that is difficult (but not impossible) to access - crawl boards only with very little clearance making efficient working very difficult. I suspect that when the roof was insulated/reinsulated the contractor only put additional insulation in the easy-to-reach places knowing full well that the occupier at that time would not haul themselves into the loft space to check! I'm not a big bloke but getting underneath one of the roof rafters in particular requires me laying flat on my back shuffling from one crawl board on one side of it to another crawl board the other side of it. 😫
I'll be thinking over the next few days whether to just do an additional roll(s) over the thinest part (i.e over the lounge ceiling). It won't be any worse than the experience I had putting in the eaves vents. Awkward but not impossible. The other thing I need to consider is the existing boards in the loft - the insulation underneath is no more than about 50mm and I reckon the mdf boards have just been screwed onto the joists (def no loft legs). I'm rather reluctant to get a 'specialist' in just to lay some extra rolls of insulation. I'll also need to consider what to do about this existing boarding (and increasing the insulation in this area (+loft legs) but think that will be a project for 2024.
Just to be clear about my EPC rating, when I moved in just over 2 years ago I saw that my EPC score was 69 (with a D rating). I'd only need to be assessed 1 point higher to be a 'low' C instead of the 'high' D that my current certificate states. That's what I meant be being on the border - you could say in energy terms, I am Berwick-upon-Tweed (in England EPC - D rating) but a few miles up the A1, I'm in Scotland (EPC - C rating) 😁 👍
