We are currently on Next loyalty Fixed until next July. We have been running a car on electricity since we bought in in 2014, but it appears that there was no variable rate tariff which we could have contracted for until after our last tariff change. Is it possible to switch in advance of the termination of our existing tariff.
Also, we are considering installation of a solar photovoltaic array. Is there some way we can combine this with a variable rate tariff for feed in to the grid? Also there is a possibility we might include a battery with this. Do the current tariffs allow for recharge of the battery at low rates?

Yes, as long as you stay with the same supplier.

Import can have a variable rate tariff. Export is a completely separate kettle of fish and comes under SEG.

No. You cannot charge your battery from the grid at off-peak rates and then use that energy to offset peak rate usage. The battery is charged from solar by day, exporting any excess when the battery is full. You can use that energy when the sun isn't shining, but you cannot charge the battery off-peak.
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.

I've just switched from the loyalty tarriff to next drive, and got charged £75 each for gas,/elec, I complained to Cust services and they have said they will refund it, but may take up to 2 weeks. Also be aware the ur smart meter readings will be screwed up so check your statements
