This has been an ongoing problem for a couple of months now, and I know I'm not the only one with this issue.
When I looked at my messages today, my July energy statement has been produced.
When I go to download the PDF of the full bill, instead of getting an actual PDF downloading and opening, I get an error message containing a load of gibberish.
It starts

Then followed by a load of HEX.
The PDF attachment to emails sent appears fine, but I prefer to manage my account on the EON Portal rather than via email!
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.
I can open PDF's in all of my browsers. I can also open the PDF if I go to my Statements section. I just get garbage if I try to download the PDF attached to my messages.
Just for interest may be. 🤔 I've set my browser to download and open, (it's normally set to not to open), the pdf statement file attached to my messages in my online account. Interestingly it downloaded BUT didn't open. I went to the file manager, clicked on the downloaded file, and yes it opened perfectly in Acrobat reader. 🤔 When I get bored I'll try a few different Operating Systems and browsers.
The problem is that the link to dynamically retrieve your PDF via the Message attachments section uses a script to dynamically validate against your account number and then retrieves the appropriate PDF that way. The script is 'broken' or not correctly parsing XML. The download links to the individual PDFs in statements are a direct link to the physical document.
I have five different browsers already. I'm burgered if I'm installing a sixth just to read message attachments when I can get to them via Statements!!! But it's a bug in the scripting on Chrome, that's for sure.
